If it is an electric shift t-case gm has there own oil not found at auto part stores

No do not put atf in the transfer case chevy has a product for this it is found in the owners manual or jo in to gm and ask for fluid for a 03 chevy 2500 transfer case

I would recommend Mobil 1 ATF which is a synthetic fluid. It certainly helps if cold weather is a concern.

    If you really don't know what fluid to put in your transfer case,I am having a similar problem,for god sakes don't just put ATF in,because certain fluids are harmful to seals and gaskets.the gentlemen who told you to go chevy and inquire about the type of fluid to use should be commended-Great job guys!!

No, the steering box is located in the left front and the transfer case is located in the center of the vehicle.If the vehicle has under 100,000 miles and it is the transfer case it should be under warranty.

If it has Automatic 4 wheel drive, Use Autotrack 2 fluid. If it doesn't use Dexron 3 Automatic transmission fluid.

2003 Chevy needs transfer case replaced for the 2nd time
I just had my transfer case rebuilt on my 2002 2500 silverado duramax. They told me that the spring that holds the pump inplace in the transfer case wore a hold through the case. He said this was common on these transfer cases. Chevy has not acknowledge the problem. He designed a steel plate, with flanges that holds the pump in place and will not wear a hole in the case again. And as far as the post to engage it once a month, the chain turns even when in 2WHL drive.
