cant turn hub nut on front wheel on 99 ford focus tried heat and 10w40 no good any ideas? i am trying to check the wheel bearing by moving axle to the side and spinning hub
If the car is jacked up you will need assistant to press the brakes, very hard and turn nut anticlockwise, it will be tight and you might need a long tubeular bar to go over your 1/2" master bar to loosen it, if you turn the steering out to the left slightly and get the bar horizontal, you can then stand on it, be carefull not to slip off or you WILL hurt yourself.
If you put heat to it you have to get it apart bow.So, chk that there is bi roll pin where the cotter pin normarlly goes. throgh slots on nut and goes through the spindle. Chk for a cootter pi in acove location. Turn nut in. and see if it wil move 1/4 turn.. If it does there is no lock pins. If there are two nuts, It's double nutted and may havw a washer with bent lock tangs.. Let me know, ok? Or send me a phone cam pic of thr assembly. We'll get it. -Ned_
Focus is Front wheel drive, the bearing is NOT adjustable.
the nut you're trying to losten is a lock nut and either takes a Huge extension bar, or an air impact.
It's not supposed to be loostened. if there's any slack or noise the whole bearing assy needs replacing
leave it alone
