2001 ford Ranger, cold air as from the AC coming through when just on regular air, any suggestions. Couldn't find in haynes book for this situation. We've noticed this before, so my husband disconnected wire on a/c but do need to come up with solution. Could this have something to do with switch?
Sorry, I don't have a schematic for your car. You may want to try a Ford dealer and see if they'll print that section for you. There has to be either a short in the control unit(dash unit), a shorted wire, or a bad relay. Most stuff today will have the 12v hot at the relay, and by adding the negative you complete the circuit. So, you would measure battery voltage at the compressor when it's not on, and slightly lower when it is. Look for the relay, might be under the hood or in a fuse box.

Thank you, All I know is as we can turn knob to the right as to where the air is directed ,air is coming thru only is cold because the compressor kicks in, a/c is on. No matter where you put the knob to the right it still comes on. Put it on off and its off.
Replaced switch,A/C switch works except it comes on heater side (right) in two settings still blowing a/c. Now we're stumped; any suggestions.
Yes, the clutch is engaged and compressor runs. It does run in all settings, the knob works on A/C and heat-just when its on vent(right side) the A/C is still coming through, even with the new switch installed today .
Not really enough information in this to help. Is the Compressor clutch engaged and compressor running?, does it run in other settings or only on Vent. The compressors generally run in defroster mode. Does your car have a separate switch/button for AC?
