My Trooper UBS55 2,8 TDI need topping up with steering oil. The filler cap states only to use DOT 3 oil. However the only bottle with DOT 3 oil I can find states that this is brake and clutch fluid. Is it save to use this? Thanks for an answer

- I was intended all along to use only the right stuff, But what is the right oil. It should be acc to. DOT 3 spec.n but I cannot find it for exception ot the brake and clutch fluid. I'll return it and look some more. I do not have an owner manual but the info on the filler cap should be sufficient. Greetz Hans

No, do not use clutch or brake fluid in your steering.

ATF used to be used in Power Steering many Years ago, but it is very high in detergents where Modern Power Steering fluid is not so .

If you can get the correct power steering fluid this would be best (consult your owners manual),but I have seen some customers that have use ATF in there steering for years will no ill effect, but I wouldn't advise it.

Please leave fair comment if I have helped you.

Thanks

- I can say that I have only ever heard about Dot 3 for brake and clutch fluid, and normally you would use fluid that is recommended on the cap.I can only think that it is the wrong cap or it isn't the power steering resovoir.I can also at the moment find reference to your fluid as 'power steering fluid',but I will carry on looking and come back to you if I have any joy.

Bear in mind that power steering fluid isn't something that is 'used', like windscreen wash or oil - it shouldn't go down unless there is a problem or a leak. So, if you notice that your power steering fluid level has dropped below the minimum more than twice in 12 months, you should have it checked out because it could mean that there is a problem that could damage your power steering.

- Could you possibly leave some feedback or rating?
It takes time to research some questions and post solutions, and it would just be nice to know whether I have helped.

Thank you
