Over heating leading to resevior geting full of hot , no fans

I was driving around, pulled into to store left car running, came back 2 mins later and the guage was almost to the red, sped home and turned heater on to help cool it down, temp went down. Let it run and started to over heat, the fans usually come on but not anymore, in know my car. Machanic looked at it and wanted to put bypass switch yadi yadi I said no..Theres a reason for everything, the fans are good I tested them, the relays are good, where's the sensor that makes the fans turn on, or is it the ECU or computer or whatever that makes the relays turn the fans on? Engine is running great just gets really hot but not bubbling over, I dont let it get hot by turning on heater. I guess it's the thermostat and/or the temp sensor/sending unit? I recently 2 years ago put a radiator in it, the old one was shot...I only use 50/50 with purified water and coolant so I don't think the radiator is bad...any suggestions...fuses are good...

I already checked the relays...read the rest of the story, I think it's a combo fault, between the thermostat(how long do they last?) and the temp sending unit to the ECU/ computer no? help

It sounds like you have a leaking engine cylinder head gasket, the combustion gases are getting into the cooling system and causing an air pocket, this leads to overheating and other symptoms you mentioned.

99 Firebird still overheating after repairs and antifreeze

overheating is most likely a bad thermostat, but the coolant loss is a second big concern. Does the exhaust look like steam? You could have a cracked block and the coolant is leaking into the engine. Also check the oil for contamination.

Sounds like the fan is not coming on when engine is geting hot.
Easiest way to check for fan operation is to drive car around the block to get engine warm--then park car and let it idle, open the hood, locate the fan and keep a visal eye on it ---and when the engine temperature comes up the fan should come on.You should be able to hear it too.If that's working, then its possible may have a partially plugged radiator or even a partilly opening engine thermostat,

Overheating

You have an air lock in the cooling system.
Do this: pull upper radiator hose off the radiator leaving it connected to the block, pour coolant into hose until filled ( you might have to do it to the radiator also). Once filled reconnected hose back to the radiator, then fill resevior to proper level. Start car turn heater on full. Let car run with cap off resevior until it starts pulling coolant in. Once warmed up shut car off let cool. Check fluid level again.

Engine coolant

you need maybe 1+1/2 gallon of distilled water;NOT TAP WATER and 1 gallon of Mazda Coolant; NOT 50/50 mix..

((WHEN THE ENGINE/COOLANT IS COOL>>VERY IMPORTANT!!!))

1.from the radiator, remove the drain plug, let it drain. for faster drain, also remove the resevoir cap.

2.when empty, put drain plug back on refill the resevior with the distilled water until full.

3.with the resevior cap off start engine with heat settings on Hi, until the coolant temp guage begin to rise or when thermostat opens. turn off engine.

4. repeat steps 1-3 until only clear water drains.

5.make sure drain plug is in, refill resevior with Mazda coolant til about half way (in case there's any expansion), do not put cap on yet, let the air bleed. start engine, let it run for 5 min.

6. accelerate in park/neutral to 2500RPM's (DO NOT drive yet) to help bleed the air keep an eye on coolant level because you will have to top it off.

7.check level as temp reaches normal; half point as usual. put resevior cap on drive around the block and check level again. make sure coolant is on the proper level; "F" or "MAX"...of course when the engine cools it will be below, but while the temp is normal it should be on the proper level.
