Help. My gear shifter is stuck in park. It won't go to reverse or drive. What do I do?
It maybe whats called torque lock, you put the car in park and didn't apply the brake, and trans. shifter locked maybe try rocking the car and then try to shift,hope this helps.

Was the fluid you drained red or black? did it smell like trans or gear oil? With linkage disconnected, could you put trans in park by moving the lever on the side of the unit? Oil condition is likely a separate issue...most "blown" transmissions generally have normal operation of shift, it just dosen't do what you tell it to. two things likely going on are: linkage problem and likely in need of fluid/filter change.

Sounds like a linkage/cable to me. Disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the shift actuator by hand to see if there is the same things happening. Don't try to do this with the engine running unless someone is holding the brake inside the car.
