The gas gauge on my 2004 Corvette moves from regestering the correct amount of fuel to empty. The computer will then show low fuel. The gauge will slowly return to normal.Any ideas. skipboyce@usa.net
The fuel level sender unit is bad and must be replaced. The sensor is located inside the fuel tank. Many vehicles have a level fuel sensor, that will send data to the gauge, and a no fuel sensor, that will trigger the no fuel light, or computer message. This will explain why the computer says no fuel while the gauge is working.
It sounds like one of your sending units has failed. There is a left and right tank on that car and as such ther eis a left sender and a right sender. When one fails you run into this condition where you have abrupt level changes and inaccurate readings.
The cost to replace the sending units is about 12 hours book time for the pair (figure 79-99$ per hour depending on your area). I do not have pricing data for the two sensors however.
Once the tanks are lowered and the sending units removed, they can be tested to determine which one is at fault.

- sensors was a typo, it should have said "..pricing data for the two senders"
I did see that ecklers has the sending units for about 65$. I would recommend using genuine Chevrolet parts, however.

I own a 2004 C5 Vette with 17,000 miles. The Headsup display freezes with a disfunctioning situation where the MPH doesn't show up in the 6 o'clock display. If I turn it off and on several times, the display will reboot and while stopped it will show O mph -then it will read the mph on my speedomter. When I restart the Vette, the Headsup display will not work. This just started to be a constant problem. Many thanks. FJ
