I have a w reg diesel ford focus estate. The car starts when cold, but if it has been running for a while it doesn't start. I turn the engine and the engine turns over, but won't actually run. If/when it does start a huge amount of black smoke poor out of the back which clears after a minute or so of running. It is almost as though the engine is not getting enough or getting too much fuel on my trying to start it. Someone mentioned a sensor and another a pump. Is this expensive to fix?
Their is a control valve between the inlet and exhaust manifolds ?? with a vacumn pipe running to it ,ECG ,just pull the thin vac pipe off and try that .If that doesnt work then take to diesel specialist firm and have the pump overhauled ,it could be problem with the electric controled cold start ,or an electric sensor problem ,but try the vac pipe first
