What is above the spare tire well? A hose goes in and out of it and there is a wire harness. The thing is bolted to the underside of the SUV just above where the spare tire sits. 98 Ford Explorere 4x4 Eddie Bauer Edition.

My experience is that the tire (being rubber) can stick to the underside of the vehicle. Try prying the tire with a piece of wood or broom handle to release it. Be careful as it may fall. Loosen the cable slightly to catch the spare and not fully drop. Good luck.
There are two heater hoses which go from the engine to the heater core. One begins on the driver side of the engine (comes off the water pump pipe) and goes between the engine and firewall, under the vehicle, and connects to a steel pipe under the vehicle.
The other begins on the passenger side of the engine goes thru the firewall, thru the spare tire compartment and into the tunnel of the vehicle where it joins a metal pipe which located underneath the shifter assembly. Remove the shift boot and the bolts underneath which secure the shift mechanism, and move the shifter out of the way so you can see the hose-to-pipe connection in the tunnel.
Hi,
Your spare tire is attached usin a cable system under the rear center of the truck. When you open the liftgate, in the center bottom there is a plastic panel with a bolt in the center near the liftgate door jamb lock mechanism. Use your tire lug nut tool to loosen (turn counterclockwise) this bolt and it will loosen the cable system dropping your spare to the ground. Dont forget to tighten the cable back up raising the retainer back to its original position after using the spare. When you get your flat tire fixed, you can drop the cable again and put your spare back under the truck......Mike
Hi, the spare tire is stored on the underside of the vehicle, under the right-side cargo door. The bolt is located in a recessed area that is protected by a small square plastic covering. To remove the spare tire, find and remove the bolt cover, then use your lug nut wrench to loosen the bolt holding the tire.
Remove the spare tire fastener's plastic cover, place the lug nut wrench onto the lug nut holding the tire onto the bolt, turn the wrench in a counter-clockwise direction until the tire is released and reaches the ground.
These cars were sold with a mini spare tire which was 3/4 the size of your full size spare that you have. Any Ford or Lincoln Mercury dealer pasts department can sell you the correct parts needed to bolt down your full size spare tire
You have posed a great question, one I am sure future viewers here will want to see answered.
The spare tire, under the vehicle, is lowered via a cable. There is a silver bolt in the rear compartment, under the carpeting. Pull the carpeting back, and you will see the bolt. Using the lug wrench from the tool kit, rotate the bolt counter-clockwise. This will rotate the cable mechanism above the spare tire, and lower it. Once the tire is low enough, the center clamp can be loosened from the center of the rim, and the tire removed from the cable device.
To raise the wheel back up, place the clamp device back into the center of the rim, and rotate the bolt clockwise, until the tire is fully raised.
What's happening is that the latch is not releasing - a safety feature
so the tire doesn't drop down onto the road should the cable or assembly rust/break etc. While researching I got this info from another
forum: Jack up the rear of the van.
Wind the spare "up". now put your jack under the spare to support its
weight. Then "unwind" it. now look up through the spare to the winch
assembly. You'll see a latch at the back - towards the rear of the van.
Reach in with a long screwdriver and release it by moving it towards
the rear of the van. If you've unwound the winch you should be able to
move the plastic holder downwards. Once you've done this you can allow
the tire to come down and remove it. Now remove the winch assembly - 5
or 6 bolts. Odds are you'll see apiece of wire hanging or it may have
fallen out. You'll also see a spring clip - it clips onto the underside
so when you unwind the winch it should pull the aforementioned latch to
release the tire. You should be able to get this back in place by
fiddling with it, or just attach a wire to the latch to work it
manually. Or buy a new winch assembly - approx. $150. Good luck
On my 2004 toyota,,,directly behind the passenger side front seat (have to push passenger seat all the way forward to see it, there is a small square flap in the carpet,,,lift that up and underneath is a big bolt which you turn counterclock wise with your spare tire lug wrench and the tire will lower to the ground. thats about it. good luck
After removing all connections and wiring from the tank and the sending unit and depressurize fuel system and drain the fuel tank and most importantly TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY this is what you have to do :
1- Make sure to mark the wires for the sending unit so that you do not have a problem connecting in the correct place.
2- Remove bolts securing spare wheel mounting bracket and remove bracket.
3- Remove tank upper insulation pad.
4- Disconnect fuel pump harness from evaporative loss flange connection
5- Release harness attached to tank retaining straps and reposition harness downward.
6- Disconnect vapor pipe assembly from underbody pipe.
7- Push back collars on quickfit connectors and remove vapor pipe and over-pressure pipe from evaporative loss flange port.
8- Remove bolts securing tank retaining straps.
9- reposition straps upwards for access.
10- Remove strap holding filler housing solenoid block connector to harness and disconnect connector.
11- Disconnect drain tube from aperture seal (small pipe beside big one)
12- Open filler cap and remove filler neck garter spring.
13- Remove filler housing bolts.
14- Displace filler housing from body opening
15- Remove fuel tank.
16- Remove hose from evaporative loss flange and filler neck , ( Bend weld tag upwards to release hose).
17- Remove evaporative loss flange lock ring.
18- Lift flange from tank enough to disconnect fuel pump harness.
19- Remove flange and seal.
20- Inside tank , loosen hose clamps and remove fuel hoses from fuel pump module.
21- Remove fuel pump module and mounting rubber , note position of mounting rubber lugs.
22- Loosen hose clamps and remove two fuel hoses inside tank.
23- Remove tank sending unit.
24- Remove magnetic drain plug and make sure that you clean it well.
That is it your tank is out , and make sure that you mark every thing that you disconnected to install back in its proper place.

The spare tyre is on a cradle under the rear of the car. the long crank handle is clipped onto the underside of carpeted boot floor board. The crank handle goes into the hole just above the bumper in the centre of the rear bumper, then wind down the chain and support to release the spare wheel.
