SOURCE: cahnging the belts on the fx35

There are 2 seperate belts the a/c and the serp belt. In order to change the belts, there is a special tool that you will need to purchase or rent from Auto Zone. Without this tool you can not replace the belt. Once you get the tool it's one bolt that turns and lets the tension off the pulleys in order to replace the belts. Just did this last week on MY FX35.

How to replace the serpentine belt for a 1987 chevy celebrity 4.5 liter

1987 Chevrolet Celebrity Serpentine Belt Routing and Timing Belt Diagrams

I had to replace the belt on a 1988 Buick Century (similar to the Celebrity, but with a four-cylinder engine). I found that the only tool that could reach the belt tensioner in the limited space was a socket on a breaker bar; there wasn't room for a ratchet, and I couldn't get the correct angle for a wrench. There may be more room at the end of a V-6 The tensioner bolt is one of the larger metric sizes.

Clean all of the pulleys before installing the belt. Verify that the belt tensioner, water pump and alternator bearings are good - no rough spots or slop, and make sure the tensioner spring is good - the tensioner should require some force on the tensioner bolt head to move it, but it should not grind, hang, or have out-of-plane movement (perpendicular to the pulley rotation).

If everything looks good, you can install the belt. The grooved side is on the inside around the grooved pulleys, and the smooth side is on the inside around the smooth pulleys. Make sure the belt is correctly seated on the grooved pulleys. Save the tensioner pulley for last - use your tool to pull the tensioner in against the spring, and slip the belt on over the tensioner pulley. {CAUTION: do not let your fingers get between the belt and the tensioner pulley. If your tool slips at this point, you'd be in a world of hurt.} Take one more look to make sure the belt is centered on all of the pulleys, then slowly release the tool to apply tension to the belt.

Loose belt. how do you tighten it or repair it?

  • Open the hood to the Saturn SL and locate the serpentine belt routing diagram on the front engine frame rail. This diagram will show you where the tensioner pulley is in comparison to the others. You will need to refer to it to make sure the belt is aligned properly when it comes time to place the belt back on.
  • 2 Stand on the side of the right fender of the Saturn SL located in front of the belt and pulleys. Locate the tensioner pulley according to the belt routing diagram. Different applications of Saturn SLs (for example, with power steering and air conditioning or without power steering or air conditioning or any variety thereof) may place the automatic belt tensioner in slightly different locations. As you will note from the room between the engine and the interior fender well, you have an extremely limited amount of room to work. This is why the telescopic magnet will come in handy; you're going to drop a wrench and need to retrieve it from the bottom of the splash shield.
  • 3 Place the box end of the long-handled 14-mm wrench onto the center bolt of the automatic tensioner and turn it clockwise. This will relieve the tension on the belt. Take the belt off the upper-right hand pulley only (unless you're replacing the belt as well) toward the front of the car. Allow the tension to go back and remove the wrench.
  • 4 Slip the back of the serpentine belt off the tensioner. Locate the two bolts on the flange of the tensioner and remove them, using the ratchet and a deep socket. If you need more room to get to the bolts, you could remove the pulley wheel off the automatic belt tensioner by placing the 14-mm long-handled wrench back onto the center bolt of the pulley but turn counterclockwise and remove the bolt and pulley.
  • 5 Install the new belt tensionser, replace the bolts, threading them in by hand at first and then tightening with the ratchet and socket. This is going to be challenging due to the lack of room in the cavity you're working. Place the 14-mm wrench back onto the center bolt of the tensioner pulley and turn clockwise to release the tension and reapply the belt to the upper pulley and on top of the tensioner or replace the belt, according to the belt routing diagram.

    How to change serpentine belt

Hello, this is an easy job. I like to remove the upper fan shroud to give me more room to work. TAKE A VERY GOOD LOOK at how the belt is routed, it looks simple but once it's off can be confusing. With a ratchet and socket or a box end wrench release the tension on the automatic belt tensioner. CAUTION don't let the wrench slip and bang your knuckles. With the tension released just remove the old belt and slowly release the tensioner. Don't just let it snap back. Place the new belt firmly and squarely in the grooves of the various pulleys and release tension on the tensioner again, then slip the belt around the final pulley and slowly release the tension again. I put the belt on the idler pulley last, (the smooth one).

How do i change the cerpintine belt?

There should be a routing diagram under the hood. Put a wrench on the tensioner pulley (the one with the spring in/on it) to release the pressure on the belt. Remove the belt. Follow the routing diagram, put the wrench back on the tensioner pulley apply pressure to get the belt back on. (to give you enough room to get the belt back on all of the pulleys)

    How to replace a serpentine belt on a 2005 f250 ford 6.0

First job is to locate the "idler tensioner pulley" or just "tensioner pulley". It should be fairly easy to find and is most likely labeled on the belt diagram on the front of the engine. (It looks like it has an arm that swings in to allow more room to get the belt in place.) It should have a square insert in the middle that is perfect for the end of a regular size socket wrench to fit in. (Or they make a special slide arm that helps if you don't have enough room if you have one those tools.) Once you put the socket wrench into the hole you can move the pulley over to the side to give more slack for room for the new belt. Slide the belt around all the pulleys according to your vehicle's belt diagram except for around one of the easier accessible top pulleys. (This just helps make it easier and gives  more room.) Turn the tensioner pulley in to give some slack and slip the belt over the last remaining pulley and release. Make sure you have the right size replacement belt before hand and that you put it on all the pulleys correctly and you won't have any problems. Hope this helps you out and be sure to let me know how it goes.. Goodluck.

Procedure to change serpentine belt 2006 toyota tacoma?

On my 2005 Tacoma with the 4.0L V6, I found it easier to change the belt from under the truck. Just remove the skid pan. Plenty of room to install the belt. The tensioner pulley is the one at about 2-o'clock from the crankshaft with the belt nearly all the way around it.

Changing Serpentine Belt on '01 Impala LS (3.8L)

Can u turn the nut in the opposite direction that u have been trying? U need a lot of leverage to get enough tension off to remove the belt. If u have enough room, add a pipe to the end of your wrench, u will need a lot of room to move the tensioner enough. U might have better luck buying the wrench made for that purpose at a parts store. I think I paid about 25 a couple years ago, I couldn't fit a regular socket and wrench on the tensioner, it was a very tight space.

How to replace belt tension pulley for dodge neon 2002

The power steering and A/C belt is tensioned by a tensioner pulley. Mine went bad and was "screaming" I thought it was the power steering pump and I replaced it only to find that it wasn't the problem. I couldn't find any bolts and deemed it too much of a problem for me to replace at home. The shop had to drop the engine and transaxle assembly from the engine bay in order to get enough room to replace the pulley. The problem with many FWD cars is having enough room to work so if you have to replace it, the engine has to move because you only have about two inches of room otherwise.
