Difficulty finding air conditioner parts for my 1999 saturn sl. air has never worked well since we bought in 2004.
Saturn parts are easy to find at car parts stores, many GM dealers, eBay, and at getsaturnparts.net. It is 12, was designed to run well for 10 years. Many many parts on that car are simply GM parts, and most of them are just worn out.
You can do a little googling and find your local GM dealer which was saddled with the Saturn warranty issues when Saturn was shut down a few years ago. They can help you find parts and expert tech help but their labor cost will exceed the value of your car on all serious repair issues.
Take the car to a repair shop which does heating and A/C work on cars. Have them tell you which A/C parts are beyond the end of their service life. Then buy new or rebuilt parts, have them install the parts and charge the system. There is a condensor, a compressor, an evaporator, a dryer, and some hoses, all of which can be had new over the counter.
I had a bunch of saturns and i think the 99SOHC was the best of them, great mileage. I drove mine for years with no A/C then gave it to my girlfriend who immediately pitched a ***** about the A/C. I had to buy and return 4 junkyard compressors before I found one that would work. The labor for install and charge was about 150, the junkyard compressor 55 so i had some trips and about 200 bucks in it. To buy a rebuilt compressor about 300 bucks alone so i saved money and it still works 2 summers later. The good mileage is gone when you run the A/C so windows down and cloth seats were all the A/C I ever needed.
