Gear shifter is in park position, but the shift arm on the transmission is not in park all the way.it wont start because of the part not all the way in park.

I have had this same problem.
Unfortunately, it will be a bigger job to fix.
Start by disconnecting the linkages that you can see underneath and under the hood of the truck.
You may have bent linkage, or missing bushings, or a worn shifter. You will be needing to find what it is that is worn or bent or needs replacement.
Start at the transmission and work you way upwards toward the gear shifter.
God bless your efforts.

Car wont shift out of park or into park easily

You mention the knob on the shifter is loose. Do you remember if the knob has always been loose or is this recent? I ask because I thought there was a button to push or a lever to lift to move the shifter into or out of R and P. So that you might not accidentally push the shifter into either of those settings and possibly damage the mechanism. If there is a lever or button, it might be that the button or lever doesn't fully disengage when you press it BECAUSE the knob on the shifter is loose. You might need to tighten the knob. Might need hex keys / Allen keys or small screwdrivers to tighten the knob. good luck.

Shifter button stuck

there should be 2 Phillips screws hold the shifter knob to the shaft. once you take out those screws it should just pop up. as far as I know there are no springs in the knob it's just a slide button. the rest of the parts are part of the shifter assembly.

97 mazda 626 wont shift from park. release button on side of shifter wont push in. removed knob, plastic rod in center wont move

The 1st thing you need to do is check the brake lights, if they are not wiorking the park lock solenoid doesn't get power and the park lock remains engaged.

I cant get my car outta park. When i press down the brake and press the knob i feel a clicking in the brake pedal. i cant get my car out of the park positon and need to get work any ideas whats wrong and...

there is a button right beside your shifter that will release the lock underneith the plastic arouns the shifter. remove the plastic rubber around the shifter and lift the plastic up. there will be a button you can press to release the shifter lock in cases of emergency. careful removing the plastic but may require some light prying action to get it off. hit the button with a srewdriver or key and move the shifter out of park. you will still need to be in park or neutral to start the car. the main problem is probably a park/neutral module, a bad shifter, or a brake pedal sensor

Key will not come out of ignition

is the park interlock fully engaged? quickly move the shifter to park and drive while turning key to rear and see if the key comes out, if not the park interlock is out of adjustment or the rod is bent.

Shifter knob

Do you have a button on the knob? Didn't you try to press it first and then to move the knob to "drive" position?
