Question about 1996 Ford Explorer
Ive got an old fiesta thats been unused for a while ive charged the battery up and have all my electrics but every time i go to start the engine i get nothing
Maybe you should first check the engine fuse,
then if all intact take all earth terminals off at the battery and at starter where it attatches to the gear box or what ever and clean the surfaces with emmery paper , also clean the surfaces that the positivecable attatches to the starter and battery, next if it is an auto try in both neutral as well as park these contacts may have sufficient corrosion to allow no contact .That is enough placesfor you to look for now.But 1more thing ,if you can get another battery to try ,not jump ,put it in your car ,every now and then you can drop a cell in a battery ,it will sometimes allow enough current to run lights etc but put the load of the starter on eeeand the wont do a thing .let us know how you go ,we can maybe find something else to try ----------"youdoit"

Hi, if the car isnt even turning over then the chances are the starter motor will need replacing if when you turn the key all you get is a clicking sound then this indicates that the starter motor has failed and needs replacing.
If the car has manual gear box then you could try putting the car in second gear then get help pushing forward slightly so the engine turns slightly then try starting it with the key you might just find the starter has seized with it been standing for a while.
The other thing to try is giving the starter a hard tap with a hammer this will sometimes solved the problem if not then you need to replace the starter motor.
On the other hand if you have an imobiliser fitted then this could also cause the problem your having but their is no way of finding out without testing if the starter motor is working or not.
Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
