Need to wire tow bar into 1999 LT35

I need to put in a tow bar socket, want to know at what point do i take off the wires from the lamp to the tow socket, presumably somewhere before the bulb so they run in parallel to the lamp bulbs? do i split the lamp wire in two or just strip off a bit of insulation and attach the wire there? and am i right in thinking they all run to a common earth so i dont need to make a loop back into the lamp wire for each circuit? to earth it do i literally just run a wire from the earth pin on the tow socket to a point on the chassis or wire back into the earth at one of the lamps? also what are the wiring colours at the lamp.
understand the theory, just never done it before!

Hi ebrown80
You can splice into each wire in turn at the back of the lamps. No need to cut right through the origional loom completly. For a really good joint you should spot solder each connection and insulate all joints well. Tow bar sockets operate on a common earth, so no need to loop each one.
Check back of socket and you will find each pin has a number. 1---7
The wiring colours from the socket back to the loom are as follows
No 1 Pin--- Yellow Wire---Left Side Flasher
No 2 Pin--- Blue Wire------Fog Lamp.
No 3 Pin--- White Wire--- Earth. Must have good contact or nothing else will operate.
No 4 Pin----Green Wire--- Right Side Flasher.
No 5 Pin----Brown Wire---- Left Side Park Light
No 6 Pin----Red Wire-------Brake Lights
No 7 Pin----Black Wire----Right Side Park Light. Centre Pin.
I hope this helps you out
Best of Luck with it
John

There is already a 4 wire trailer plug installed on the car look under the bumper area and you will see it is flat and has a cover with a tab on it when you pull the rubber tab it shows the 4 connectors or bullet connecters female you can buy a male connector at any auto parts store and they can show you where it is for free, they will also have the color coded kit for you to wire it to protect your wires from a short and grounding out. The Plug and kit cost's $15.00 for the plug and 20 feet of wire to connect to your trailer you are pulling or if your trailer already has a plug you can get an adapter for it.

Wiring diagram for a toe bar

that will take some major rewiring, no?

front toebar. wiring. to tower hitch.

first off we dont know what is towing car, nor its hitch wiring

but in most cases, you may need and adaptor, to convert simple

USA wiring to Euro type wiring.

there are 2 systems. that cant just be wired in willy nilly.

is this permanent? one tow , only

or for ever. we cant guess that.

if 1 tow ,why not use clamp on aux light bar and get it done

rent them at u-haul?

if perm, is need , get a pro shop to do this.

how to do this and not damage the cars , electronics that controls

lights can be very tricky.

the safest way is to have new connector installed to rear lights.

to the main harness, then you unplug the cars harness side

and then connect the tow bar new custom harness connector to the rear.

none of this is easy or simple.

tell more get more.

Peugeot 306 xld tow bar wiring

The standard for tow bar wiring is 6 wire: power, ground, tail lights, brake lights, left signal, right signal.

But you don't really need power. It all depends on the socket.

Connecting a towbar

The first thing to do is not to guess at what wires do what. Go to the hardware store and pick up a tester that has only one test prong. They usually have a battery in them. put the tester in the connector terminals and test one at a time. These little tester require you to be somewhat grounded like leaning your arm against some metal on the car. if you can't find somewhere to ground your self, then run a small wire from the negative battery post/wire and wrap the bare wire around your finger. Turn on which ever item you want to test first. When you find the wire that is hot9lights up the tester) then plug in to one of the tow bar wires. you should avoid plugging in a ground wire. You can usually trace which one is the ground wire. Another way to trace which is the ground wire is to use a continuity tester. Put on tester lead on the frame of the tow bar and the other lead on a tow bar connector wire and you should get a light on the tester when you find the one that is the ground wire and then mark that connector wire so you don't connect any of your hot wires to it.
Hope this helps

JUST REPLACED THE SOCKET FOR THE REAR PASSENGER BRAKE LAMP WITH A BULB, NOW THE BRAKE LAMP IS STILL NOT WORKING

you need to check for ground, get a long wire and hook one end to the battery ground and touch it to your new socket, if it lights ground the socket.if not, hook a test light clip to the ground wire and use the sharp point to the 2 wires. one will be the tail light the other will be the turn sig and stop light. its easy to do. go for it you can do this... good day and good luck

Tow bar trailer socket wiring connection point to car wiring?

The connectors for towing wire harnesses on foresters are generally on the passenger side, below the rear taillight inside the cargo space. some require pulling up the foam block that is between the spare tire compartment and the taillight. Check where you replace the tailights from inside the car, if there isn't a matching connector hanging out there, check around the spare tire compartment, see if you can remove the carpeted foam block next to the compartment and find the plug under there.
