The sunroof glasses are held in place by a regulator, that is a frame composed by two rails, and several gears and rollers to move the glasses.

When the rear glass is stuck, that is usually because something has snapped in the rail or because the glass had come out of track. Usually the two triangular ramps that hold the glass in position are out of place.

The rear glass must be removed and re-assembled in the right way to fix the problem. The rear glass is held by about 20 screws. After removing screws and glass , you will see the motor and the triangular ramps.
The repair is quite delicate and there is risk to damage the glass (expensive).

Presumming that nothing has failed in the roof mechanism the only thing you can try is carrying out a full roof intialization.
To carry this out press the sunroof button up into the tilt position upwards and hold you will see the roof will carry out variouse movements and if the procedure is going to work the roof will go onto tilt then close and open fully and then close again and shut the blind only then is the procedure finished.
If this does not work then the motor will need removing to see if the roof section will close and if not then mechanical damage may have occured.

Thanks
Smith

My sunroof won't shut properly..moves to semi open position

sunroofs are a bear to fix, even for a trained technician, usually the head line needs to come out so you can see what is going on under there. Open the sunroof and see if you can see anything stuck in the channels. sometimes you can remove the glass and see the problem but I would not advise anyone who is not trained to mess with a sunroof.

VW sunroof come with a manual crank tool located inside the sunroof motor assembly behind the cover. Use that to manually crank it back to the stowed position and have it checked for cause of malfunction.

The sunroof on my 2002 VW Golf is stuck in a slightly open position (about 1 inch open). It goes back to this position no matter what the sunroof switch is pointing to. How can I get it to close/work...

try this first (cheapest remedy first) open the sunroof fully take key out of ignition shut all doors then put the key in drivers door and hold key over 30 secs to unlock car(windows will go down)then wait 30 secs.then put key back in drivers door and hold key over 30 secs to lock car, windows will go up and the sunroof will close.if the sunroof does not shut properly then we start with motor park switch.....

Sunroof stuck in the open position. can;t close.

The problem is probably the 'flap' of metal that's popped up, just above the where the handle is.
The runners/rails have undoubtedly corroded, and now there isn't anything to pull it down.
Luckily, as a 'Get the roof shut cos it's p*^%g
down' solution,,.
You can just hold your finger on the flap, to hold it down, in between the sunroof, and hole as you shut it.
Just remember to remove your finger Before you finish closing the sunroof.
Happy motoring.

2005 Chevy Equinox sunroof problems

Some customers may comment that the sunroof will no longer respond to the control switch while in a vented, partially opened, or fully opened position.
Cause A software issue with the sunroof control module may cause the sunroof control module to incorrectly indicate a "closed" position, which may result in no power to the sunroof motor.
Correction Verify the customer concern. If a condition is present, replace the sunroof control module with a new sunroof control module, P/N 15847643. Refer to the Service Procedure in this bulletin.
Service Procedure
  1. Verify the customer concern by opening and closing the sunroof. • If the sunroof will not open , check the power windows. - If the power windows are also inoperative, check the fuse. If the fuse has opened, refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 05-08-64-004 to install 30A circuit breaker. - If the power windows are fully functional, refer to "Power Sunroof Inoperative" diagnostics (SI Document ID# 1392967) in the Body section of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox or Saturn VUE Service Manual. • If the sunroof will open (or is already open), but will not close , proceed to Step 2.
  2. Replace the sunroof control module. Refer to "Sunroof Control Module Replacement" procedure in the Body section of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox Service Manual (SI Document ID# 1196049) or Saturn VUE Service Manual (SI Document ID# 1710479).
  3. Open and close the sunroof in order to confirm that the customer concern has been resolved.

Chevy Tahoe Sunroof is stuck open moves slightly forward and back

It sounds like it just needs to be reinitialized. Turn your key to the on position with motor off and hold the up/full vent button down for at least 30 seconds or until your sunroof either clicks or goes to the full vent position. That should fix your problem.

My sunroof has opened and now it won't close. Any clues?

You will have to remove the sunroof motor, and the sunroof glass. Then you can move the guide tracks seperately until they are in the closed position. Then you can put the glass and motor back in, remove the power source (fuse or disconnect wire harness) to prevent any accidental opening until you can get it fixed. Chances are that a guide track or cable is broken, this can be a costly fix. Do not take it to the dealership, they will only want to install a whole sunroof unit. Take it to a local shop that installs aftermarket sunroofs
