Question about Chevrolet Cavalier

2 Answers

I have a 2001 cavalier. When I researched the Haynes guide it seemed like an easy fix; unplug the battery and the fan, gently lift the fan assembly to release it from the fasteners on the side and the plastic hook on the top of the assembly from the piece of sheet metal at the top of the radiator, and then gently slip the assembly out of the car and replace it with a new assembly. Well thats the theory, but in reality the plastic hook on the top get caught on a piece of the frame that runs across the top of the radiator and condensor. The question is, is there any way to get the fan assembly off without having to remove the radiator and the condensor.

How to replace alternator

First you need to disconnect the neg. battery terminal. Then remove drive belt by releasing tension on tension pully to remove belt. Next remove mounting bolts. Then gently lift alt. out of mounting being careful not to damage wires on back. Gently unplug wires on back and loosen and remove nut on main cable. Assembly is reverse of removal. Tools you will need: flat head screw driver, slip joint pliers, 10mm, 13mm, & 15mm sockets, 15mm wrench and either a larger wrench or pipe for leverage. If you get stuck don't panic you can go to youtube for a how to video. Good luck.

Engine fan isn't working

Disconnect the plug from the cooling fan and run wires direct from the battery and connect to the fan. If the fan does not come on it is the fan motor. You can order a reman fan assembly from for around $60. Very easy to install.
