There are three pulley's associated with the water pump. Which pulley do you mean?......if you mean the one on the water pump itself, this can not be removed...you have to replace the water pump.

I am assuming you are talking about the pulley on the water pump itself, in which case you have to replace the water pump.

First of all,you need the removal tool which looks like this.

http://www.etoolcart.com/gmnorthstarwaterpumpsocketast7880.aspx

You need to remove the air filter housing and ducting to gain easy access to the pump.

Remove the shield covering the pulley and belt. The belt is easily removed by levering the tensioner pulley.

The water pump is located at the lower radiator hose manifold where you will also find the thermostat.Remove the manifold cover and you will see the water pump.

Insert the removal tool over the pump making sure it is locked in position. You will need to use a breaker bar on the removal tool and turn the tool CLOCKWISE to release the pump (1/4 turn), or if you imagine the breaker bar being vertical, push towards the windscreen of your car,it takes quite a bit of force to unseat the pump hence the use of a breaker bar.

Installing the new pump does not require as much torque as removing the old one.Tighten the new pump to 73 ft.lbs. making sure it is seated properly before tightening.

Don't forget to clean out the water pump housing prior to installing the new pump and don't forget to include a new water pump gasket and housing cover gasket.

It is also a good idea to install a new thermostat while you're at it.

The pulley is an integral part of the pump. You have to remove the water housing along with the thermostat in order to gain access to the pump. You have to use a special tool to interlock the pump body and turn it counterclockwise to remove it. Remember to remove the belt first.

Where is the water pump on a 2001 Cadillac northstar engine 4.6 liter.

The water pump on the Northstar is inside a housing, and I believe it's on the drivers side. You'll also need a special tool to remove it, you can buy one at the auto parts for about $30 give or take.

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier, water is leaking behind the pully couls it be the water pump> Hate to buy one and that is not it.

Sounds like it is coming from the water pump bearing seal. Unfortunatly you should replace the water pump before the bearing fails and throws the pulley into the radiator (or the car gets too hot).

How do I change a water pump on a 2001 Saturn SL

I loosen the pully bolts first, take off the belt. move the a/c compressor (leaving the hoses connected) take the pully off and you will find a ring of bolts on the outside of the water pump. Its easy. takes about 40 minutes.

How to remove the water pump pully on the 4.6 northstar engine on a 1997 cadillac deville

you don't, the water pump has pulley built in. (it's located on the driver's side in the rear of the engine in case you mis-understand that it's on the front of the engine )
there's a special tool to remove and install the water pump.
if you have the tool the the job is very easy

Surpentine belt.

depends on which v8 you have....the 4.7 the routing is as follows it goes under the waterpump pully over the alternator down and around the power steering pumpto the crank...it goes under the bottom of the crank to the idler pully.the flat side of the belt goes ver the idler then around the automatic tensioner to the ac compressor.
on the 5.2 and 5.9 it routes starting at the idler pully the flat side goes undr the idler the up to the ac compressor around the compressor and down to the power steering pump ... around power stering pump to waterpump where the flat side is against waterpump pully around water pump down and around crank up it automatic tensioner....around tensioner and up and over alternator
