After being in 4x4 what is the proper way to put it back into 2x2

Check your owners manual as it should be covered there. Normally you need to come to a complete stop to swap between the two, but some modern vehicles will allow you to do this on the move.

2003 ford expedition 4x4 high/low light start flashing every couple minutes

I too have a 2003 expidition with the same problem. both fault lamps are flashing on and off. I took it out of 4x4 (all wheel) thinking it was a glitch but, even in 2x2 they still flash on and off. Will be bring it into the ford dealer this week. will follow up when I get her back.

I have a 1993 ford f150 4x4 i cant get it out of 4 wheel drive it still drive in 4wd how do i fix this problem

if it has automatic lock in hubs only!! start truck, put truck in neutral, push button for 2x2 shift into reverse, back up 5to 10 feet, truck should shift back into 2x2 automatically. shift into drive and the 4x4 light should go off. if you have manual lock hubs you''ll need to unlock those manually on the 2 front wheels.w/truck in neutral and emergency brake on or someone holdling brake inside truck,go to front and rotate the locking hubs to front tire or wheels in centerof hub to free wheel.they will be marked,or should be. if not, then try turning the center of hub switch counter clockwise until it stops turning, then go to passenger side and turn it counter clockwise. thank you for choosing fixya.

The 4x4 does not work. when I turn the switch on nothing engages. i checked the fuses and they are good. any help?

there could be a vacuum leak for the front diff actuator . if the actuator does not engage it will not switch into 4x4

My 4 wheel drive stopped working on my 2003 ford sport track. any suggestions?

it could be a few things does the switch try to activate it does the 4x4 apear in the insturment cluster , if so your switch is good and i would look at the 4x4 motor in the transfer care fairly common problem on those explorers

2002 Ford Expplorer Sport 4X4 Does not Enagage

Before I pulled anything off I would start checking fuses. More than likely the fuse you'll be looking for will be under the hood. But I'd go ahead and check all of the fuses just to be sure. ( A blown fuse will either be smokey looking, or you'll be able to see a broken piece of wire in the middle of it). If that is not the problem then more than likely a relay or the control computer for the 4x4 is messed up. Generally, if there is a mechanical problem with the transfer case, or the servo motor that changes it's gears, the 4x4 indicator lights will flash. Since they are not flashing I believe your problem is in the electrical system. If it is not a fuse, I recommend having a mechanic look at it. Merry Christmas!

Intermittent Flashing 4x4 Light

This was a weakness of the Montero Sport models. If you google Montero Sport 4WD light flashing you will find lots of information. The best troubleshooting article I have found is here: This article is about the Pajero, but the Montero Sport uses the same platform so this article applies.

The Montero Sport uses several switches and vacuum modules to put the system in and out of 4WD. If any of these malfunction, the light may flash continuously, flash intermittently, fail to come on, and it can trigger the anti-lock brake light to come on. In brief, if the 4WD shift lever is engaged, but the transfer case doesn't engage, the sensors show a mismatch and will cause the light to act funny including triggering the vehicle's anti-lock break light. These SUV's need to be shifted into 4WD regularly to keep the switches and mechanisms working correctly.

Try this before you even think about a visit to the $$$$$ Mitsubishi Dealer:
Shift the 4WD lever between 4WD High, Low and 2WD at least 100 times. Often, this will free the mechanisms and resolve the problem. It worked for me after three years of trying everything else including the dealer replacing switches, etc. If this does fix it for you, just be sure to shift the vehicle in and out of 4WD several times at least one a week and this will keep the mechanisms lubricated and functioning correctly. If that doesn't work, try the above link (article). Good luck!
