check that you have connected the starter to switch wires correctly as the solenoid is fully engaged by power when there is not to be power there.
there is only power at the solenoid ( small terminals )when the ignition is in the start position

Chevy cavalier wont stop cranking

You need to make sure the solenoid wire isn't making contact with the starter wire. Be sure you don't have the purple wire making contact with the red wire.

I have a 1988 ford mustang gt and when i turn the car on sometimes the starter wont disengage and it kills my battery

Find the starter solenoid near the battery. When the starter sticks on remove the small wire from the starter solenoid. If the starter stops the issue is in the ignition switch side of the circuit. If the starter continues to run with the small wire removed you have a bad solenoid. You can also try tapping the solenoid with the handle end of a screwdriver. If the starter stops when you tap it, replace it. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using!

Ignition wont switch off

I had same problem a few years back - turned out it was a bad starter. What was happening was that the starter was always powered on - so even if I shut the ignition off it would still run and I had to disconnect the battery.

Starter won't disengage

You have a defective start, no 2 ways about it, and it may be hung up, which means there is no way that you will be able to start it or to disengage the starter. It will have to be towed, and as it is, the tow company can tow it.
