Question about 1989 Toyota Pickup SR5

1 Answer

Check engine light comes on 1989 Toyota V-6 3.0 SR-5 P/U.

I have a 1989 Toyota V-6 3.0 4X4 SR-5 P/U. The issue I am having is that the check engine light comes on around 1500 – 2000 RPM’s or approximately 15 – 20 MPH when moving forward.

When the truck is in neutral and I rev the engine to 3000, the light does not come on. It has been this way for approx. one-year.

The mechanic already re-set the codes by disconnecting the battery, but I still have the issue.

What could it be?

These engines have a self-diagnostic system built in. Find a manual on how to engage this self-diagnostic - you jump a couple of leads in a junction box and then count the number of times the check engine light blinks in succession. Refer to the Toyota manual for identifying what system is affected. Sounds like a critical component is out - fuel pump perhaps. Don't quess - use the diagnostic system.

1989 toyota camry - when the engine gets warm, the dash lights for "charge, brake and lights" come on and stay on?

Hello, and welcome to FixYa.

The lights may be indicating an internal failure in the alternator. I would suggest that you take the vehicle to a professional that is capable of alternator diagnosis, and have it checked. My initial feeling is that the voltage regulator may be bad.

Toyota Corrolla 1989

The mechanic should check on the Idle and adjust the Idle .the car is vibrating because of the Idle is low and the engine can't do to move very easy .there is low fuel coming from the fuel pump going to the engine. The transmission of the car don't have a problem because of you just change the oil . But the Idle has to be adjusted until the car will not vibrate.

Check engine on

Get to a garage to check error codes (and then erase them). Could be a fault recorded when something was unplugged and the ignition was then turned on - not really a fault, but the ECU saw it as such at the time. Otherwise maybe something not seated sorrectly (electrical connection).

Check engine light wont go off 1986 totota p/u

I do not have a manual for this truck but if you can hook up a scanner, then do that inorder to narrow down the problem area. Check to make sure all vacuum hoses are connected and not leaking. Check all fuses. It could be oxygen sensor. Reset check engine light. Let me know and I can find out some more info.
