Check to insure that you have the correct key. If you do, spray a little WD-40 on the key, insert it and try it again. If it won't turn, turn the steering wheel as far back and forth as you can and try the key again, repeat until the key turns. The problem is that the ignition lock is slightly out of alignment, a common problem. Usually a little patience and a little more force and it will turn.

Why won't key turn in ignition switch?

Before you do anything else. Check whether the gear shift is in neutral or park. If it still can't turn you may have to shift your gear shift several time.

Trail blazer gear shift button

Could be the brake switch or the shift lock solenoid. You may be able to turn the key lock to the unlock position, move the shifter out of park, then start the engine in neutral.
The shifter and the shift lock solenoid would need to be inspected.

Ignition problems. Sometimes the car will start and sometimes it won't even try. I thought maybe holding the gear shifter up will help and sometimes putting it in neutral will work when nothing e

From what you describe it sounds like the shift linkage needs adjustment. Was any work done on the transmission,or did you bottom out recently? I don't think it's electrical. Also don't keep a lot of keys on your ignition key ring this can wear the key slot and also cause the erratic starts.Good luck.

2008 impala won't start or shift out of park, key is difficult to remove from ignition.

Sound like a problem with the Neutral Ssafety Switch, this is located on top transmission (generally) and its possible that need some adjust.

Ignition switch won't release key when it is put in park. But when I removed switch and key tumbler, the key tumbler/cylinder releases key. Why won't the key release when it is in park?

Most newer models have a safety feature called
shift interlock. This prevents the key from being turned back
to the lock position if you forget to place the gear selector in park.
Depending on the model,
If it uses a cable, it may be sticking or needs adjusting.
If it uses an electrical solenoid. may be blown fuse or park switch.
Tap, shake, and pull up on the shifter and make sure it's in park.

I can't pull the gear shift into drive or reverse is it the neutral safety switch?

Try this, Press brake pedal....Turn ignition key to 'ON'...Rotate steering wheel left and right as far as allowed while moving shift lever and/or ignition key. This action released my similar problem.

Neutral safety switch What is it. Son pulled key out of ignition with the tramission not in park. Can not even turn ignition switch over. Is the neutral safety switch the problem

A neutral safety switch will stop the path of battery power going to the starter motor if the gear shift isn't in park or neutral. I dont believe your issue is here, I would say the ignition lock assembly.

Car will start but gear shift is locked

follow instructions in manual for SHIFTLOCK RELEASE

Turn off car.
Engage Parking Break
Take ignition key and put into shift lock release slot (near gear shift)
Push down on key and at same time MOVE gear shift to neutral.
Remove key, start car as normal and disengage parking break...

good to go.... mechanic can replace/repair if this is an ongoing issue: $85 I read somewhere...but heard it's not hard to do yourself for $35 someone else wrote.
