Trunk lights or under hood or glove box lights staying on frequently causes this .. a leaky diode in the alternater will also cause the problem .. but more likely your battery may simply be at end of life .. if its the original then its about 11 years old .. thats longer than it should last ... you can have it tested at many auto parts stores for free .. many will even replace it with a new battery without labor charge .. they can also check your alternator if you ask ..

Battery drains

Assume you mean drains of power not fluid. Does battery light show on dash with engine running. Make sure that the alternator drive belt is correctly tensioned (longest side betwen pullys move 1/2" up/down). If it takes a few days to loose charge temp fix is to use a solar battery charger that can charge battery when car is parked. Hope this helps.

Avoid a dead battery

If your battery is discharging while the van is parked up, there's 3 general causes:
  • The battery itself is failing and cannot hold a charge. replacement is the only option.
  • There is a fault within the alternator - either the alternator is not charging or it is allowing the battery to drain because the diodes (the rectifier in the alternator) have failed.
  • There's a parasitic drain of power somewhere. Something is remaining 'live' when the van is parked up - and draining the battery.
Many places will do a free battery check.

ok there are only 2 causes.
1: as always bad batteries can do that.... (i use test battery from on other car, unless new $125 batteries are cheap to you.
or charge IT , and and use my load tester.
$20 at Harbor FRIGHT(pun)

2: or is phantom drain,
here is page that covers all ways to find a drain.

if car battery drains driving, check the charging system.

Dead Battery when parked. the car is killing batteries

You have what we call a parasatic load(aka battery drain). If your handy with a volt meter I'll explain to you how to locate your drain. If not I recommend you take it to a repair shop and have then locate the drain.

Small drain on battery when off, enough to drain

most of todays cars have small draws to maintain computer memory for the ECU and the radio. 50 mA or less normally.

If you have a higher draw than this you probably have a short somewhere. You can put an ammeter inline with your cars battery and pull fuses one at a time to see if a single circuit is at fault.

If the fuse pull doesnt work you will need to check for the fault backwards from the fuse panel. A continuity test with the battery off to see if the hot side is grounded ahead of the fuse panel should do it.

My car keeps draining my battery when parked

most likely cause in most cases is the alternator diode pack ,disconnect the alternator wires and see if it drains overnight
