Question about 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

1 Answer

I need help with the alarm going off on a 2000 VW Beetle when I try and start the car. The trunk does not properly open and close-the hood latch plastic handle pull strap-broke, and the "courtesy lights" on BOTH doors do not work. Also, my wipers DO not work. I just bought another key that I know I have to program at a VW dealership, BUT I have not been able to leave my driveway! -Can someone help me?-Chas

Had the same problem - and thanks to the internet found the solution... Open the front door and the hatchback. Now insert the key into the ignition and start the car. Voila! The alarm is disabled! If this doesn't sound like control-alt-delete, I don't know what does! Now I'm searching to find out how to turn it back on - because, while this stopped the alarm from going off, it also deactivated the keyless entry.

Iam going to take mine to the dealer to have it all reset. You can do the same when you have your new key programed

HOW TO TURN OFF THE TRUNK OPEN ALARM

The 2012 Camry's trunk lid has a 'trunk open' alarm that shows up on the instrument panel as 'door open' red icon. It also turns on the door open beeping sound so long as the trunk lid is open. This is normal and is usually not a problem..

However, if you should need to carry a large item in the trunk and can't close the lid, be prepared to listen to the incessant door open sound with no means to turn it off!!

The trunk lid alarm 'switch' is operated by the trunk latch when you open or close the lid. By manually operating the latch to it's closed position, you can temporarily silence the alarm.

Using a small screwdriver, you can easily press the actuator and turn the alarm off.

**WARNING**
YOU MUST RETURN THE ACTUATOR TO THE OPEN POSITION (ABOVE)
(ALARM ON) BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE LID. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY DAMAGE THE LATCHING MECHANISM
**WARNING**

DO THIS WITH THE TRUNK OPEN LEVER OR WITH THE REMOTE TRUNK OPEN BUTTON.

Wheres the hood latch button on the 2000 vw beetle

I am working on a 2000 Beetle now and the hood latch is near where most are on the left by the door yet it is flush to the wall. Otherwise the lift latch is just in front under the hood. Hope it works.

2001 VW GTI VR6 alarm goes off randomly... make it stop

could possibly be a faulty latch. door latch, trunk latch, hood latch. something sporadically not recognizing a closed latch to cause it to go off sporadically. a scan with a vw scan tool or a vag com should detect a fault in the convenience system.

Have a 2000 VW Beetle. The alarm won't turn off!

My 2000 Beetle does same thing (although not all the time). Just found an internet post that suggests there is a problem in the door lock sensor. I assume you are using a regular key - not
the keyless entry - like I am. He also said that you can disable the alarm (also disables the
keyless entry - which doesn't bother me) by leaving the front door AND the rear trunk open and
starting the car up. Seems to work so far. I will get the door lock sensor replaced and turn the
alarm system back on (not sure how yet), and let you know if that stops the problem.

Horn alarm always going off.

The horn alarm usually sounds whenever there is an open circuit being sensed in one of the doors, hood or trunk. It then resets itself after a couple short minutes. The toughest contact to check is the one on the front hood latch. I had to replace thie hood latch in my daughter's 1998 Beetle because of a similar problem, and the fact that it was causing a slow drain on her battery. Very tough to diagnose the slow drain, but it worked. Also check to see if your trunk release is operating both from the driver's door and the keyless remote.

2002 volkswagon beetle says that the trunk is when not.

The switch in the trunk which tells the alarm that the trunk lid is closed is either defective or not correctly adjusted. If this info is of no help to you, than you don't know enough to fix it. Take it to a reputable VW shop for repair.

Battery needs to be recharged after 3 days of sitting.

There is a slow drian being placed on the battery from one of the VW accessories installed on your bug. I had a very similar problem with my daughter's 1998 Beetle, and the cause was traced back to the hood latch. There's an electrical connection to the hood latch, and when the connection fails it places a slow drain on the battery. Although I'm not fully certain, I beleive the connection is part of the circuit that allows the security system to sense that the doors, hood and trunk are all closed.

I also had a problem with the electrical trunk release actuator, and had to have it replaced once. The remote key fob signals a the electrical actuator to open the trunk lid when the trunk release button on the key fob is pushed. If your trunk release operated normally, you probably do not have an electrical problem by your trunk.

About 60 percent certain you problem is located in your hood release circuit. An experience car nechanic should be able to test this circuit using a hand held electrical meter before it is removed and replaced.

Good luck. My daughter's bug has been acting normally ever since the latch was replaced about 2-3 years ago.
