The alt. is usually located at the top of the engine. Look at where your belt is routed and the alt. has a small fan blade on the front of it.

SOURCE: 2001 nissan xterra will not start without jump

Either he's talking about the field wire plug on the alternator or the battery positive feed wire , field wire is usually a two wire plug and the battery wire is single large wire around 8 gage or so. look for loose connection at either of these wire locations...

V6 3.3L The sensor is located underneath the air intake manifold on top of the engine block. This should take an experienced mechanic about 3-4 hours to replace.
