Question about 2003 BMW 325

1 Answer

This is a 1987 325i convertible, with a manual 5 speed. The problem is, that it pops out of first gear, when starting at a dead stop. It will stay in gear, if it is moving at all. So you can start in second gear, then shift into first, but that sucks. Does any body know what the problem is, here? Some body told me that the linkage might be out of adjustment, or maybe the problem is inside the gear box. I don't know.

Generally when you have a problem with your car 'popping' out of a gear, it the shifter linkage. Shift linkage has a lot to do with the transmission. I recommend going to a shop you trust and asking them to check the shift linkage and adjust if needed. If that doesn't fix it, its your tranny and that will be expensive.

'98 Pontiac Grand Prix SE PO742 torque converter clutch solenoid circuit stuck on Trac off light and service engine soon light stay on

When the PCM detects 3 occurrences of TCC slip between -20 and +50 RPM for 5 seconds, indicating the TCC is applied, when commanded OFF, then DTC P0742 sets. DTC P0742 is a type B DTC.
The PCM energizes the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Valve Assembly (TCC Sol. Valve Assy.) by creating a ground path on circuit 422. When grounded (energized), the valve stops converter signal oil from exhausting. This causes converter signal oil pressure to increase and move the TCC apply valve. The TCC Sol. Valve Assy. de-energizes when the PCM no longer provides a ground path. When de-energized, the valve will exhaust fluid and release the TCC

Transmission stays in overdrive at stop. have to

The torque converter lock up solonoid is bad. This is an internal transmission part that requires partial transmission disassembly. Most times its cheaper to put a good used transmission in.

5 speed first gear only start out it pops into neutral

It sounds like the the clip that holds it in first might have worn out. Back many years ago I had a Triumph Spitfire that would do this. I dropped the tranny and changed it myself, back in the 70's it was a 30 cent part. I don't even want to think about what it would cost to have done in a shop today.

1994 mazda cronos 2.00 v6 auto car idles ok drives ok but when i come to a stop it stalls in gear been atuo

This sounds like a problem with the torque converter lockup system. Usually the torque converter lockup solenoid is at fault in your condition. This solenoid usually locks up the torque convertor (which acts like a clutch in an automatic transmission) when you are driving at a certain speed, and unlocks it when you press the brake, and/or come to a stop. When a torque converter stays locked up, and you stop the vehicle, it acts like a vehicle with a manual transmission, if you bring the vehicle to a complete stop without applying the clutch pedal, the brakes stall the engine. Basically, if the torque converter can't unlock, even when you come to a stop, the engine is still locked to the transmission, and even when you apply the brakes, the torque converter doesn't slip and freewheel like it should, but instead stalls the engine.

3rd gear help please!

I have a 2002 Hyundai Sonata and I had the same problem. But mine would always shift into 3rd gear and STAY there until I turned the car off. I took it to a Hyundai dealer and he had to rewire a speed sensor on top of the transmission. Apparently a little animal got up in that tight little spot and gnawed on my sensor wires. The car has run fine since. To make a long story short, it might be your speed sensor on your transmission.
