1500 hemi 5.7 Changed power steering pump. About 1,500 miles later the steering is very hard at low speeds. Is there air in the system, bad pump, or maybe rac & pin issue?

Jack the truck up and see if it's hard to turn . Now if you did nor flush power steering system the pump could have gone bad . Most power steering pumps carry a warranty on them wouldn't hurt to swap it out he can do the work yourself but it sounds like your rack and pinion is starting to fail

Change power steering pump

Play in the steering wheel is likely from worn tie rod ends. Have your inner and outer tie rods checked. The outer tie rods are connected to the rod ends coming out of the rack on each side, and are connected to the wheels. The inner tie rods are not visible-but are on the rods under the protective boots on each end of the rack and pinion assembly.
You may need a new rack assembly, but first check if you just need new tie rods.

How can transmmision fluid leak from rack and pinion

No, no, it just can't. Only power steering fluid goes in and out of the rack and pinion. Transmission fluid travels through the cooler lines (a supply and return line) to the radiator or a separate cooler in front of the radiator. Check again. Is it transmission fluid or power steering fluid? Transmission fluid may be leaking onto the rack and pinion.

My rac and pinion is leaking. do i have to replace the entire thing or just the line that leaks

If it is a hose that is leaking then you can just replace or repair it, but if it is the rack itself it is better to replace the whole assembly. A new assembly will give you warranty . To replace some parts on a leaky rack may just move the leak , as the rack may be worn somewhere else.

My truck steering went completely out. The steering wheel only spins (you can watch it go round and round.) Never heard any noises or felt anything when this happend. It does lock into place when you turn...

There is a u joint that connects your steering colum to your rac and pinnion. Make sure that the u joint is still in good shape, you can see this from under your hood. If u joint is still in good order then your rac and pinion has gone bad and will need to be replaced.

Pinion seal leaking

check your rear diff vent if pluged clean it out and clean up the pinion seal.sometimes if the leak is caused by pluged vent and has not been leaking long once vent is clean sometimes the leak will stop.there is not a specific torque amount because it is rotational torque(how hard to turn pinion).there is a crush sleve on the pinion and if torqued too tight or too loose brg preload will be wrong and brg damage could result.mark and remove drive shaft.remove rear wheels, brakes, axles.so when turning pinion you dont have any drag from brakes or axles.mark the position of the yoke on the pinion.remove yoke, replace seal, reinstall yoke be sure to replace pinion nut.tighten nut until it takes the exact same amount of force to turn pinion as before taking original pinion nut off.hope this helps.
