You have to replace the purge vent valve and the vent valve solenoid they work as a team one of them is next to the gasoline tank y the other is under hood in the intake you gonna spend about 100 dollars total your car will run like new again.

Code p0496 i changed gas cap code came back on what to do

Code 496 is not about the gas cap.
The code means the computer has detected pressure in the EVAP system when it should not be there.
The EVAP system consists of lines and valves that vent the gas tank to the vapor canister and the engine.
The problem could be one of the valves or the pressure sensor. You may need a shop manual to get the diagnostic steps to test the system.

First of all you are not supposed to fill the tank with the engine running.
Not only is it a fire hazard, the car will act up as you now know.
If you run the engine with the gas cap loose or off, that code 496 can set among other codes.
The computer vents the tank every few minutes when the engine is running. The system has to be closed to work correctly.
Code 496 is for fuel pressure found in the EVAP system with the engine running. It probably sucked some fuel into the engine thru the venting system.
If it is running rough now, you may need to have the intake and other components checked for liquid fuel. Otherwise you should be able to have the codes cleared and drive on.

I have not had any problems yet but the engine light is on and it came up with the code p0496 what could it be

the p0496 means that the evap system flow during non-purge first check ur gas cap this can cause the check engine code if cap is good and on tight than the usual culprit is either evap purge solenoid and or canister vent solenoid sticking not expensive to replace by self in driveway but before u do check with a dealer in area and advise about code to see if covered should be since its an 08 evap should be covered [dont know mileage and or condition of truck which makes a difference on warranty ]

My engine light continues to turn on, I was told the code is P0496 that shows when they connect the computer. They tell me it could be the gas cap or the emission valve. I would like to know wher is the...

P0496 is not a gas cap, problem is with the purge vent solenoid (on intake manif) or purge vent valve (under car by fuel tank). Most likely the vent valve. Depending on your vehicle/VIN you may be eligible for the 10 year/120k mile warranty Caddy just came out with but is keeping a tight lip on. See bulletin #09205 dated 3-11-2010. Good luck with this!!

My 2007 cadillac cts engin service light is on. I used OBD-2 code reader to read it, got a alarm code P0496. What's the meaning of P0496?thanks.

Check the gas cap, also,it could mean the evap system is not working,or you have run out of gas recently,if all this checks out ok,then the tank is not venting properly.

My check engine light is on so I ran a scan with my personal car code reader & got code p0496. I called chevrolet & they told me its p0442. Which is correct?

p0496 is evap emission is high purge flow fault, p0442 is emission control system( small leak) the meaning is about the same. check for a bad gas cap first. sometimes this will set a check engine light. loosen cap and see if this is the problem. if it is. usually if you turn cap only a little the light will go out. but if bad enough just change cap.

Check Engine Light Comes on Intermittently

The P0141 code points to the O2 sensor heater circuit. It could be that there is a short in the wiring to the O2 sensor or it could be that the O2 sensor heating element itself is bad. The code is for O2 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2. Bank 1 means its the O2 sensor connected to the exhaust pipe that runs to cylinder #1. Sensor 2 means that it is likely the O2 sensor after the catalytic converter on the same exhaust pipe.
