Tip

Replacing the water Pump

Here's a step by step to remove and replace the water pump on your Wrangler.

Be advised, all 4.0L engines, some 2.8L engines and some 4.2L engines have a reverse rotating water pump. You can ID these from the word REVERSE or REV imprinted or cast on the housing and/or fan. There will also be an 'R' stamped into the impellor.

Make sure your replacement pump is the correct type, If not, expect some major turmoil.

The procedure:
1. Remove negative battery cable
2. Open radiator valve - drain cooling system
3. Remove cooling fan and shroud
4. Remove belts (see my tip on serpentine belts if needed)
5. Remove water pump pulley from hub
6. Remove hoses from water pump
7. Remove accessory brackets from the water pump.
When removing the P/S pump and/or AC compressor, leave the hoses attached and move them out of the way.
8 . Remove the remaining bolts and detach the water pump from the engine. The bolts are three different lengths. Make note of where they came from.
9. Compare the new and old pumps. Make sure they match.
10. Scrape off the old gasket material.
11. Apply a thin continuous line of RTV High Temp sealant to the water pump side of the gasket.
12. Put a couple bolts through the pump to hold the gasket in place and mount the gasket.
13. Apply Another coat to the other side of the gasket.
14. Attach the pump to the engine. Screw the bolts in finger tight.
15. Attach the remaining bolts.
16. Tighten them up in 1/4 turn increments.
17. Re-attach all the stuff you removed
18. Refill the coolant, adjust belt tension.
19. Run the engine and check for leaks.

Hope this helps

What is the location of the smog pump on a 2000 oldsmobile bravada

It is located under the front of the vehicle remove the front splah shield (6 15mm bolts) It is a electric pump and GM had a problem with them filling with water sometimes you could just clean out pump and hoses and it will be ok but sometimes the pump or check valve needed to be replaced. GOOD LUCK I hope this helps.

Will rims off my 99 wrangler fit on my 2000 olds bravada?

Take a tape measure and measure from the center of one hole in the rim to the one next to it. write that measurement down. Now measure from the center of one of your lug nuts on your bravada to the center of the lug nut next to it. If the measurements match exactly, the rims should fit.

Removing water pump what does it involve

Hi, the upper fan shroud needs to be removed, 7 -10mm bolts, then the fan blade needs to come off, screwed to the water pump, would have to get a tool to hold the pulley, then loosen the big fan nut with a wrench, then the belt comes off, drain coolant, take off the hoses from the pump, then remove the 4 mounting bolts. tap the pump with a hammer( to break the seal, as it will be stuck to the engine), clean all old gasket debris from both sides of the engine, glue the new gaskets to the pump, reinstall the new pump with 4 bolts, and tighten, reassemble completely, fill coolant, run the engine with the cap off(to bleed the system), untill the thermostat opens. Topp off the coolant, and road test. Good luck...
