Question about Chevrolet Monte Carlo

2 Answers

2001 Monte Carlo SS. Can feel a slight vibration and high and low speeds, hit the brakes and it's a bit stronger. Hard right turns it feels like the right front wheel is wobbling. I changed BOTH front hub assemblies, had the front end aligned(they said everything looked good), and bought new tires. Still got the vibration. Don't mind spending cash to fix it but don't want to just keep throwin parts at it. Any ideas????

Thanks for the reply. When I have the front end off the ground and grab each tire top to bottom and side to side their is no play at all when I try to shake it.

Have you changed the rotors? or at least have them machined. This sounds like you have heat warpage on the rotors.

Sounds like a worn tie rod Grab the rod and see how much play is in it, quite often the ball end wears elongated and allows the wheel to produce a "wobble" feeling when turning. It can be rebushed or replaced, depending on how worn it is and whether the bush has worn through and now destroying the cast.

I have a 2008 Infinity QX-56 and it shakes terribly when I apply the brakes when driving at highway speeds. It also feels like the suspension is bad when you go over a bump or hit a pot-hole.

Warped brake rotor usually cause high vibration at high speeds. But you can also feel it at lower speeds. But bad ball joints and tie rod end will cause vibration at high speeds. Ball joints will pop at pot holes, sometimes. Tie rods can be felt in the steering wheel at a stop. Move the wheel slightly to the left and right, you can feel/hear a tap as you turn it.

My 2004 Monte Carlo SS runs loud and it never did before. It's loud at low and high speeds, but seems to sound worse at low speeds. I do need a front end alignment (the car drifts to the left); would...

that depends on if you think the noise is coming from the motor, or the actual road noise that comes with driving , its probably the same at both speeds but sine you have less air and outside noise,, you hear it more at lower speeds. does it make the same noise when started but not moving? if you answer that yes, then its something else besides road noise, if it is no, then get your front end checked, it could be anything from a bad alignment to a bad wheel bearing, or bad brake ,

check the front wheel bearings. jack up each tire and see if it feels loose, if it does its a bearing problem. heres how I check for a bad wheel bearing.jackup car tire off the ground, get in car put e-brake on. start car. put foot on brake. put it in gear, and let it up very slow do not touch the gas. if its a bearing you will here it in the wheels. do the same on the other side of car. a bad wheel bearing will howl or grind. when wheels are turning.

Recently I have noticed that when I apply brakes at a speed of 50 and above I feel at the brake pedal a grinding feeling and car slightly pulls to a side . This car is my Audi A4 Quattro, Y registration....

When you get a vibration at high speeds when you hit the brakes the rotor/s are very slightly warped. Depending on miles, you may be able to get them turned / surfaced. One other thing is if you don't drive it to much, they can rust and cause the same problem. Hitting the brakes a few times on the highway will smooth them out.

Low Trac light coming on on 1995 Monte Carlo. Can feel something in brake pedal. Making clicking sound. Safe to drive?

the traction control and the abs use the same wheel speed sensors, what you are feeling is the abs trying to release a brake because it thinks that one of the wheels is locking up, you probably have a bad wheel sensor or there could be something stuck in the relector ring like ice. try taking the car to auto-zone and have them retrieve the codes and that will tell you witch wheel to take a look at.

2001 Monte Carlo - brakes squeal "whistle"

Actually - I had the same problem and replaced my brakes 4 times in a year. YES 4 TIMES because of the whistling. I switched from metallic to ceramic pads and works like a charm! Ceramic will not allow the noise, plus I have found to have much better control over braking and short distances.
