This is incorrect. The fuel filter on this year Cherokee is under the vehicle, on the driver's side frame rail, near the rear tire. The fuel filter wasn't located in the fuel tank until the 1997 model year.

The fuel filter is on the driver's side about a foot away from the fuel tank. It's about the size of a coke can. Fairly easy to replace.

My 88 jeep starts ,and its normal for about 1 min. then just shuts off !

You may have a problem with the fuel delivery being a fuel pump that's going bad or a restricted fuel filter that can't keep up with volume of fuel needed to keep your vehicle running. I'd start by having your fuel pressure tested

try replacing the air filter if you haven't already. if this doesn't fix, then check your fuel pressure. I strongly recomend picking up a Hayne's or Chilton's manual for your vehicle at any autozone or similar chain parts store.

Steps to replace fuel pump on 1999 jeep cherokee laredo 4wheel dr

how are the spark plugs?

would start with those.

the fuel filter is usually located under the hood by the intake manifold and attached to the firewall of the car. the pump is located right by the fuel tank and if you cant see it then its inside the fuel tank. (you will have to lower the fuel tank down to get to the pump.)

Get under the vehicle and start at the fuel tank and go forward you will find it. If its a Grand Cherokee Laredo the fuel filter is located inside the fuel pump so the whole fuel pump has to be replaced

88 jeep starts sometimes

If you keep your tank under 1/2 rust can form on inside of the tank causing the fuel filter to get clogged. I'ld check that first. When your remove filter, if it's a rusty color gas that comes out, I'ld bet that's your problem.
