Question about 2003 Land Rover Freelander

1 Answer

Freelander td4 bmw engine will not start

The engine will not start found one fault code in ecu, fuel pressure implusablity, tested the lower presure fuel pump which is ok, tested the fuel pressure sensor which was ok, tested the high presure pump, which wsa ok, tested if the ecu was sending a pulse to the injectors which it is, tested the camshaft postion sensor the results are as follows, with the plug off connecting to leeds 1 & 3 ignition on the reading was 12v, with the plug on connecting to leeds 2 & 3 ignition on the reading was 12v but should be 5v and cranking was 12v but should be 0.5v. does the mean that the camshaft sensor is fault or the ecu cos there is no fault code in the memory for this. any ideas thanks andy.

Freelander td4 died on me when driving along engine management light came on and now it will not start at all, it also is not showing any error codes when put on reader

Back to basics, then. It probably lost spark or fuel to the engine. Take the big air boot off and spray some carb cleaner inside the intake, then try to start it. If it coughs and sputters, and tries to start and run, then you know it was a gas problem. Test your fuel pressure to see if the fuel pump is at fault.
If the carb cleaner (or starting fluid-be careful not to use too much-start fluid is kind of ******* engines) had no effect, then you need to test for spark at one of the spark plug wires. If no spark, the ignition system is at fault.

Fault code on a 2004 Freelander td4 = P3505. Vehicle won't start at all? Please advise. Thanks.

from what research I have found it looks like the glow plugs is the answer to the question of what code # P3505 is.
I hope I helped you in the right direction, it would make sense why it wont start.

The ECU controls the firing of the injectors based on the position of piston and valves which the Cam and Crank sensors report to the ECU.
Your saying the pump works(b+ at the pump and its buzzing) but there is no residual pressure to start the vehicle and you don't know if the pump can produce the pressure needed to keep the vehicle running.
Well fuel pressure testing is dangerous.
So I'll start with making sure B+ is making it to pump and its buzzing. If pump buzzes then use a fuel pressure gauge and attach it to the schrater valve on the fuel rail and test its residual pressure. Use shop manual to determine if you have the correct residule.
Then do whatever shop manual tells you to test for running fuel pressure.
If dealing with fuel is not your thing then take it to a repair shop. It's safer for one thing

I'm gonna call it at the pump cause if there is no residual pressure that means pump is defective and you will finish burning up pump trying to get the vehicle to start.

Low Fuel Pressure on Landrover Freelander TD4

From 53 reg onwards, diesel pump is under R.H. rear wheel arch, hidden by the plastic wheel arch liner. Older versions have combined fuel pump/sender in the tank (under R.H part of rear seat).
You should be able to hear a faint purr from the pump when ignition is turned on but engine not yet running.

Can not find filter

Hay..It's easy to find....It's in the rear left hand Conner under the engine compartment..Always replace it in to the order..because sometimes td4 will not rev above 2000rpm if the fuel filter got blocks...
