The battery started getting drained right after we bought it brand new. the first night we went to go start it after a few hours and it was completely dead so we jumped it then it started right up so we got the alternator tested they said it needed to be replaced so we bought a brand new alternator and we are still having the same problem it will start up and run as long as you jump it to get it started but after it sits for an hour or so the battery is dead we took the battery back to auto zone and had it tested it is not the battery and we tested the brand new alternator the short is somewhere between the ground the battery and the fuse box that is wehre we pick up the short on the meter but we can't figure out where and don't have a repair manual

U need the alternator retested, it is also possible your battery has a dead cell... if you have access to an ammeter, check the draw on the ground side... if it is less that an amp or so, the problem lies in the alt. or batt.

Have you checked the charging of the alternator at the battery? (not by a parts store) Put a volt meter across the battery and check voltage while running. You should be showing 13.5v or better (not over 14) with accessories off, 12.5 or better with everything on including high beams. If you don't, chances are you may have a regulator problem. I don't know how you are checking draw, but you should be using an ammeter placed between either battery terminal and cable (cable removed from battery) Unplug each fuse and watch for a substantial drop in draw. That system will be the one with the problem...then, unplug each component served by that fuse (with fuse replaced) till the draw again drops. That will be the component that is pulling your battery down. You did check the simple stuff like sun visor lights and glove box light?

I have a 91 cherokee.had less than a year.just bought a new battery 2 months ago.my problem is if i let it sit for more than 3 days the battery goes dead.could the alarm sys have anything to do with this?

Yes, and no... at this point you haven't done any testing so anything electrical is suspect. First, you need to check obvious items such as glovebox light etc to make sure they aren't staying on...Then you need to remove one battery terminal and put an ammeter between the terminal and wire. Start pulling fuses one by one till draw shown on ammeter drops. Check to see what system that fuse serves and you can begin narrowing down the problem. If after removing all fuses the draw remains it's likely that there is an internal bleed off in the alternator. sometimes a bad diode or regulator can do that. I would first have the charging system and the new battery checked ...there are defective batteries, not often as there once were, but it can happen.

I own a 2003 grand cherokee, the fan to the engine would not kick on, but the fan and the thermostat is less than a year old, where is the fuse box so i can check the fuses

First, I'd hot wire the fan to the battery and just make sure it's OK...I never assume something is working even if I replaced it twenty minutes ago. Your realy and any attending fuses should be located in the power distribution center neaqr the battery and there should be a label inside the cover to help with identification of that and any attending fuses. The temperature sensor feeds info to the computer which in turn activates the relay and turns the fan on...any malfunction along the way will cause it to not operaqte properly. Also check that the fan comes on with A/C operation.

95 jeep cherokee not starting

Check the small wire on the starter to see if you are getting 12v there with the key turned. If you are, then it is possible that the starter (&or solenoid) that checked out good last year is not good now. If no power at small wire, then check neutral safety switch.
