push in and hold the sunroof button (30 sec) and the sunroof will go through the entire recalibration. That should fix it.
__________________ Hi apperently this is a common problem for BMW but this fix should do it. You will have to do it again if it happens. Good luck.
If you park in the sun, the plastic guides on the glass and the interior cover have crumbled by now. Not one of BMW's best designs. Probably designed by the same guy who designed the window regulators in this series. They stink as well.
The procedure for removing the sunroof and replacing the guides is a do-it-yourself job, but is way too complicated to describe here with no pictures. If you search the internet for "e46 sunroof repair" you will find instructions.
Once you practice on yours, you can come over to my house because I have one that has failed and another that probably will soon. Fortunately, neither my wife nor I ever open our sunroofs.
hey did you ever figure this out? Im working on the same problem right now... have power to the sunroof and just replaced the 25amp circuit breaker that is right after the sunroof... I have a circuit diagram if it would help you at all
I Might be wrong but sometimes then sunroof and shade must be lubricated every few years. maybe thats why it wont slide up but depending on the option the first owner put into the car. some sunroofs in these models do slide back and some just til.Because the moonroof is glass the interior parts get extreamly hot under the sun light, this might be the problem.
Ha, i just replaced one of these today. Yes they are serviceable but a pita. There is also a fix for the rear glass not closing. The rear tilt mechanisms need to be replaced bmw part number 54 13 7 240 682.
Make sure nobody plays with the car key after you lock it because if anybody push the unlocking button on your key remote it will unlock the car and if they push and hold it long enough it will open the windows and sunroof
