Bleed your cooling system. You have a air pockets in your system. Don't forget to run your heater full blast when doing so. Usually help to unplug your heater hose and flush out the heater core then work on getting it filled and getting all the air out of your system.

]clearpix.gif//-->
Symptoms
After several hours of work, warning system indicates hot engine coolant or hot hydraulic oil.
Situation or Problem
Coolant level in reservoir is between the "MIN" and "MAX" range but engine or hydraulic system is overheating.
Summary
Air is entering cooling system, hindering coolant flow. Check coolant level. Fill to the "MAX" line on the coolant reservoir.
Bleeding Cooling System:
The bleed valve (see Operator's Manual for location) on the radiator must be closed when the tractor is operating. Open the valve when coolant is drained or filled. If the bleed valve is left open, coolant will internally bypass between the low temperature circuit and engine high temperature circuit causing overheating. When bleeding the system, open the bleed valve and run the engine with no load for 5 minutes at 1700 rpm. Then shut engine off for 5 to 10 minutes before closing the drain valve. Check the coolant level. If level is below the "MAX" fill line, repeat this procedure until coolant level stays at the "MAX" line.

Loses water from resevoir but not from radiator

So the level keeps dropping in the reservoir? If you have to keep adding coolant to the reservoir, the system is leaking or losing coolant somewhere. Have the system pressure tested to find the leak. Is the reservoir itself leaking? When the level gets low enough, first the reservoir will go dry, then the radiator level will start to drop.
Here's how the reservoir works: coolant is under pressure from the radiator cap seal. As coolant heats up from hot engine, it expands, and pressure forces the radiator cap seal up, coolant is forced into the reservoir-remember the hot mark on the reservoir? When car is shut off, coolant contracts, creating a vacuum in top of radiator. This vacuum works to suction coolant back from reservoir into the radiator, keeping the radiator topped up, and coolant should now be at the lower cold mark on the reservoir. It is a closed, sealed system. The only loss of coolant will be a very small amount of evaporation from the reservoir. If coolant level keeps dropping, there is a leak somewhere.

I have a 2005 jetta gls. There is a small leak in the coolant resevoir so I added a small amount of distilled water since I didn't have coolant. when the car is idle the engine rpms slowly pick up

Yes safe to drive. Just keep an eye on the coolant level.. I didnt have the problem with the RPMs going up, but i didnt have a crack in my reservoir. I replace it once and after 4 months it happened again. Had to get another one. Not sure why it does this. But i ran it for 3 or so months with just adding coolant when needed. It started to over heat once so i had to stop (ran low on coolant). So just keep an eye on it.

How do i remove engine coolant cap on 2001 cadillac dhs

WAIT UNTIL YOUR ENGINE IS COLD,YOUR RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP IS LOCATED ON THE COOLANT OVER FLOW RESERVOIR, THATS WHERE YOU ADD COOLANT WHEN COOLANT LOW,YOU POUR COOLANT IN THE OVER FLOW RESERVOIR UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL REMAIN AT FULL COLD MARK DONT OVER FILL OVER FLOW RESERVOIR, WHEN COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING WHEN ADDING COOLANT AND COOLANT LEVEL STAY AT COLD MARK ON THE RESERVOIR YOU RADIATOR HAS THE CORRECT COOLANT LEVEL IF COOLANT LEVEL KEEP DROPPING CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS AROUND RADIATOR AND THE TOP AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSES, LOOK FOR COOLANT LEAK AT WATER PUMP GASKET OR SEAL OR LEAK AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF YES REPLACE WATER PUMP.

Vw jetta iv, temperature alarm sounds and flash with no aparent reason. temperature dial indiator is ok.

I WOULD CHECK BOTH RADIATOR HOSES TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE HOT. THERMOSTAT COULD BE STICKING SLIGHTLY CLOSED.CHECK COOLANT LEVEL MAKE SURE COOLANT NOT LOW.IF COOLING NOT BOILING OUT OF THE EXPANSION TANK. I WOULD HAVE CAR HOOKED UP TO A DIAGNOTIC SCANNER AND CHECK COOLANT TEMPERATURE SEE IF TEMP. OVER 230 DEGREES IF SO RADIATOR COOLING FANS NOT WORKING.COOLANT THERMO SWITCH BAD BOTH FANS SHOULD BE RUNNING AT LOW SPEED.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY LOW COOLANT SENSOR IN EXPANSION TANK.MAKE SURE COOLANT IS IN THE EXPANSION TANK BECAUSE COOLANT LEVEL COULD BE LOW.ADD COOLANT IN THE EXPANSION TANK UNTIL YOU AT MAX LEVEL LINE ON THE EXPANSION TANK.DONT OVER FILL THE EXPANSION KEEP ADDING COOLANT UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STAYS AT THE MAX LEVEL LINE ON THE EXPANSION TANK.

Hi, there is a gurgling sound coming from my BH5 2 litre N/A Legacy. Yesterday it started overheating, it has yet to reach past 3/4 on the temp gauge but that's only because I stopped driving it

Sounds that you are low on coolant so low that the coolant sensor is no longer immersed in it If the coolant sensor is prevented from working, due to low levels of coolant, then the engine radiator cooling fan will not be started and overheating will result. The gurgling you hear is due to air in the system. When the engine is cold remove the coolant reservoir cap. Set the interior heater to max temperature. Top up the reservoir to the maximum limit with water/antifreeze mix (2:1 is usual). Start the the engine. Be prepared to add more coolant mix as air is cleared from the system. When the top hose from the engine to the radiator gets warm give it plenty of squeezing to help shift any air pockets. The fan should also start at about this time. Make sure that the interior heater is blowing hot air. When the gurgling has stopped and no more coolant needs to be added to stay at the max level then replace the reservoir cap and secure it firmly. Allow the engine to reach running temperature. Check all hoses, junctions, gaskets water pump seal etc for any signs of leaks as it would be good to detect any cause for the previous loss of coolant.

Check engine light come on car not running hot plenty of coolant in it guy at auto zone coolant might be low or senor could be going out.

Hello, If the man at Autozone used a scanner for your car, then the problem was identified and you need to follow up on the possible repairs.

The low coolant level can be temporarily fixed by adding coolant to the proper reservoir under the hood. You would need to add the proper Antifreeze to the car and see if the "check light" stays off after the man scans and clears the onboard computer. You could also instead disconnect the NEG Battery cable for 10 minutes to allow the car to Reset itself. The reason I indicated a temporary cure by adding more coolant is that the original coolant went somewhere. If the coolant level goes down again you need to have a Radiator place check your system for leaks. The coolant level can change when the engine heats up so you would need to look at the reservoir after the engine is hot and while it is running.

The car does also have water sensors and the autoparts guy was correct if the scanner tool he used indicated the sensor was going bad. The sensor is reasonably priced, there can be 2 in the car and they work independent of each other. One sensor operates the dash guage and the other sensor operates the engine controls including when the cooling fans come on for the engine. The sensors are small, about the size of your Thumb's first joint.

I hope my solution is very helpful in explaining what you need to do.

Why my low coolant light comes on at time. but its not low on coolant. i just put a new water pump on.

CHECK COOLANT OVER FLOW RESERVOIR MAKE SURE IT HAS COOLANT IF YES.YOU COULD HAVE A FAULTY COOLANT LEVEL SENSOR IN THE COOLANT OVERFLOW RESERVOIR. CHECK TO MAKE SURE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR STILL INTACT.LIGHTLY TAP WITH THE HEAD OF A SCREW DRIVER BELOW COOLANT LOW LEVEL SENSOR BOTTOM OF COOLANT RESERVOIR.IF LOW COOLANT LIGHT GOES OUT COOLANT SENSOR PROBABLY STUCK IF LIGHT STAYS ON COOLANT LOW LEVEL SENSOR BAD.

2004 impala coolant level

The coolant container (called the overflow reservoir) will be marked as to what constitutes MIN and MAX levels that should be in it. If it's low, add coolant.

As for what temperature it should run at, the gauge on the dash is just a general indication, but usually it runs close to the middle of the gauge's range.
