Question about Pontiac Montana SV6

Brake vibration I took off the calipers to paint them and since i put them back on, the brakes on the front are shuddering, not constantly but on and off during trips.

I have a 1977 ford 351 f-100.I had new brake rotors, brake pads, and brake hoses. I have viberation in my brake petal when I stop. my mechanic says the problem is my front bushings, is that true.

When the shuddering starts pull off the road way get out and feel the rotors on all 4 wheels. If any are very hot you have a caliper piston hanging and holding the brake pad too tight against the rotor.

What is causing both front brakes to lock up


check master cylinder not releasing the brakes. the brake flex hose for each wheel may have collapsed internally. the way to find out is when the brakes don`t release loosen the bleeder screw on the brake caliper if brake fluid squirts out or runs out and the brakes release then the flex hose has collapsed. if the brakes don`t release and no fluid squirts out then the calipers are seized and need replacing. the shuddering is an indication the brake rotors are probably warped and need replacing.

Replace rear brake discs and pads


Depending on vehicle. Find level ground and park there. Put chocks in front and behind wheels not being lifted. Loosen lugs, jack up vehicle, set jack stands, lower vehicle on jack stands, remove lugs and wheel. Open hood remove brake fluid cap. Remove two bolts holding caliper, pull caliper off rotor disc and bracket, remove pads, place a used pad in front of caliper piston, use a c clamp to push caliper piston in caliper, remove c clamp and old pad, hang caliper up, remove 2 bolts holding caliper bracket, remove bracket, remove rotor, install new rotor, install caliper bracket, install new pads, install caliper, repeat this on other side, put cap back on brake fluid tank, remove bleeder fittings and keep pressing brake pedal until an even flow of brake fluid sprays out. Install bleeder fitting. Make sure brake fluid doesnt get on paint and is contained and disposed of correctly, top off fluid install wheels and raise car up remove jack stands, lower car and break in new pads

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 that Upon breaking begins to vibrate and kinda bounce plus it wants to pull to he right away from the side that vibrates. Any ideas. The vibrating and shaking begins about one...


You need to have the front rotors turned or replaced. Take a set of dial calipers and measure the rotor thickness. compare that to the specs on the rotor and that will let you know if you can turn them. Put new pads on and make sure to lube the slider pins.

take your car to a brake shop and have the rotors turned if your vibration and shuddering is occurring when you actually apply the brakes.

I have a 96 a4 tdi an there seems to a shudder coming through brake pedal when i brake .pads ,calipers and discs are fine.


A shudder coming through the brake pedal is the sign of a warped rotor. You say the rotors, pads, and calipers are fine. Did someone inspect them or do they just "look" fine? A visual inspection usually will not show if a rotor is warped. You'll need to have them turned or replaced to be correct the problem.

1999 Taurus/Sable Section 06-03: Brakes, Front Disc 1999 Taurus/Sable Workshop Manual REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Procedure revision date: 06/25/1998 Disc Removal
  1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  1. Remove wheel and tire assembly. Be careful to avoid damage or interference with caliper bleeder screw fitting and front disc brake rotor shield (2K004).
  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: Handle front disc brake rotor (1125) and disc brake caliper (2B120) assembly in such a way as to prevent deformation of front disc brake rotor , and nicking, scratching or contamination of brake linings/rotor surfaces.
    NOTE: To prevent damage, do not allow disc brake caliper to hang by the front brake hose (2078) .


    Remove caliper anchor plate bolts and discard. Position disc brake caliper out of the way. Prevent separation of caliper housing from anchor bracket because contamination of guide pin journals can occur.
  1. NOTE: If excessive force must be used during front disc brake rotor removal, the front disc brake rotor should be checked for runout prior to installation.


    If additional force is required to remove front disc brake rotor , apply Rust Penetrant and Inhibitor F2AZ-19A501-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C56-A on front and rear rotor/hub mating surfaces. First, strike front disc brake rotor between lug bolts (1107) with a plastic hammer. If this does not work, attach 2-3 Jaw Puller 205-D027 (D80L-1013-A) or equivalent and remove front disc brake rotor . Remove front disc brake rotor from wheel hub (1104) assembly by pulling it off the lug bolts.
Installation
  1. If original front disc brake rotor is being installed, make sure rotor braking and mounting surfaces are clean.
  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: Failure to clean rust and foreign material from rotor and hub mounting faces when installing new or old front disc brake rotors will result in high rotor runout, which will speed up the development of brake roughness shudder vibration.
    Apply a small amount of Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound D7AZ-19A331-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M1C171-A to pilot diameter of front disc brake rotor.
  1. Install front disc brake rotor on wheel hub assembly.
  1. Install disc brake caliper and new caliper anchor bracket bolts on front disc brake rotor . Tighten caliper anchor bracket bolts to 88-118 Nm (65-87 lb-ft).
  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: Failure to tighten lug nuts (1012) in a star pattern may result in high rotor runout, which will speed up the development of brake roughness, shudder and vibration.
    Install wheel and tire assembly on vehicle. Tighten lug nuts to 115-142 Nm (85-104 lb-ft) using Rotunda Accutorq® Lug Nut Socket 164-R0303 or equivalent on a 1/2 inch air impact wrench, or use a torque wrench.
  1. Lower vehicle.
  1. Pump brake pedal prior to moving vehicle to position brake linings.
  1. Road test vehicle.

Front brakes shudder a fair bit when braking, even lightly. There hasn't been any whining of brake pads or anything. I am going to change the pads, but how do I know if I need to replace the rotors?...


It seems now a days that everyone loves to turn rotors, the only reason to turn a rotor is if it is running out, what this means is that
it is moving back and forth and not in a straight line. What a brake tec is suppose to do is place a dial caliper on the rotor and spin it and see if it is running out,if it is then it must be turned,as long as the rotor is not under the mfg min width. Any vibration,pulsing,shudder,
would tell me that it needs to be turned, just wanted to explain the reason behind it. Any other questions please post back as everyone is more than happy to help.
