It is your blower resistor. Most are located under the passenger side dashboard.

1998 Sunfire GT The fan control for the inside of the vehicle has 4 levels but my level 1 and 2 don't work only 3 and 4 work. How do I fix this issue?

The blower motor resistor has partially failed. Usually when they go out, you will only have high speed, but when one part fails, all speeds lower than the failed part stop working also. You just need to have a blower motor resistor installed and you should be good to go.

I can turn the heat on level 4 (the highest level) and the fan works and I get heat but when I turn it on, on level 1-3 the fan doesn't come on. Is this just a fuse that I need to change?

If you are getting heat on 1 level then its probably not the fuse. Typically it means the blower motor itself, or the blower motor resister is bad.

My xterra's air conditioning will not work. The a/c compressor won't engage on blower levels 2, 3 and 4. The a/c compressor will engage on level 1. The blower only works on levels 2, 3 and 4. The...

Typically when the blower only works on high it is because the blower motor resistor is faulty. The first thing I would do is have it checked or replaced and see if your lights are still not working right.

There are not too many other things that this could be, but it might be a wiring problem or a problem with the A/C controls or control module.

I hope this has helped.

2005 malibu - heat/ac has 4 levels for fsn, level

Your blower speed resistor has gone bad and needs to be replaced. You can pick one up at Auto Zone or Parts Source with the step by step instructions to getting the resistor replaced with common tools.

It is located under the glove box, way in the back of the passenger foot area. You'll need to remove 2 screws with a 7mm socket, and remove the plastic cover that covers the blower motor and another component box that I think controls the passenger airbag. After removing the plastic cover you'll need to side that passenger airbag module to the right so it pop off its mounting bracket and move it out of the way. That will give a better view of the blower motor. I highly recommend you also remove the blower motor itself because the Blower Motor Resistor is located behind it. I think you'll need a 5mm or 5.5mm socket to remove the 3 screws that hold in place the blower motor and 2 more screws for the Blower Motor Resistor... It's a cramped location to work in but if you have all the tools and enough lighting then it shouldn't take more than 30-60 minutes to do. The Blower Motor Resistor costs about $19-$25. Good luck

Internal fan only works on level 4

If you had an after-market stereo installed, the installer may have damaged the plastic clips behind the A/C cluster or disconnected the cables from these controls. Also, your blower motor may need to be checked. You may also have an obstruction (ie. debris) inside the ducts where the fan is, so the lower settings are not strong enough to turn the propellers, but the high setting is. I have a cooling fan at work that does this everyday. Good luck.

Blower for ac/heat only work on lower 3 levels.

Check the blower motor resitor. Use a 12v test light at the switch and notice the bulb brightness change as you switch settings.. Probably have a bad blower resiter.

Problem with the level of heat/ac blower only works on level 4, instead of 1,2,3.

You'll need to replace your blower motor resistor. Usually located on firewall on passenger side, or up under dash inside by blower motor. Grab a new one at parts store & then you'll know what your looking for.
