Did you check your oil level? Is the oil light on? (No oil pressure) try changing oil & install an engine additive for noisey lifters, If none of this works need to place lifters

Common complaint on the 3.1 GM engine, if the ticking goes away shortly after start, then no problem, if it continues after short time try a higher grade of gas, then go to more mechanical solution, even replacement of lifters the noise will come back.

The lifters tick at start up and stop when it is warm

Yes, that means when they are ticking they havent gotten the oil to the top of the engine yet. They stop ticking cause the lubrication has reached the top of the engine, and doing its job....

2001 Buick Century Ticking Noise

Okay, lets hope it is something simple. Remove the underhood light bulb. At night, in the dark, start the engine and look under the hood. You may be able to see sparks jumping. This would be bad wires. If you can see where the spark plugs go and one has a spark jumping it is just one bad sparkplug. Turn off car-replace underhood bulb.
If you see no sparks then it is most likely the valve train. If you have adjustable lifters they need someone to tighten them up to specifications. If they are not adjustable you may need to replace worn parts.
Make sure you keep fresh and plenty of oil in the engine. It can not repair worn parts but if the oil is low or dirty you will have bigger problems.

Drain the radiator

There is a plastic valve on the driver side of the radiator ,but to find it you must remove black plastic guard/shield under the radiator which is held in by5 or 6 screws. the plastic valve can then be opened with a 1/4 " ratchet
