Is there a hose under the engine close to the water pump or connected to the water pump that has the possibility of leaking?

Yes ...check the tightness of all clamp hoses as well as start the vehicle and turn the heater to on full and inspect the connections as well as the hoses for leaks it may even be a pinhole leak or simply worn from dry-rot

Losing a lot of coolant. I don't see a leak. I started to drain the system and it smells burnt to s**t. What might my problem and possible solutions be?

Water pump -- A bad shaft seal will allow coolant to dribble out of the vent hole just under the water pump pulley shaft. If the water pump is a two-piece unit with a backing plate, the gasket between the housing and back cover may be leaking. The gasket or o-ring that seals the pump to the engine front cover on cover-mounted water pumps can also leak coolant. Look for stains, discoloration or liquid coolant on the outside of the water pump or engine.
Radiator -- Radiators can develop leaks around upper or loser hose connections as a result of vibration. The seams where the core is mated to the end tanks is another place where leaks frequently develop, especially on aluminum radiators with plastic end tanks. On copper/brass radiators, leaks typically occur where the cooling tubes in the core are connected or soldered to the core headers. The core itself is also vulnerable to stone damage. Internal corrosion caused by old coolant that has never been changed can also eat through the metal in the radiator, causing it to leak.
Most cooling systems today are designed to operate at 8 to 14 psi. If the radiator can't hold pressure, your engine will overheat and lose coolant.
Hoses -- Cracks, pinholes or splits in a radiator hose or heater hose will leak coolant. A hose leak will usually send a stream of hot coolant spraying out of the hose. A corroded hose connection or a loose or damaged hose clamp may also allow coolant to leak from the end of a hose. Sometimes the leak may only occur once the hose gets hot and the pinhole or crack opens up.

My ford has a leak on the right side front it smells like coolant over a two day period all the coolant leaked on the ground what do i do?


Well depending on what engine is in this vehicle, it could possibly be the water pump that is leaking or possibly a "freeze out" plug on the block. I would say it is more than likely the water pump. If you have no noticeable leaks from any of the hoses or radiator, i would definitely suspect the water pump or possibly the thermostat housing may have cracked and started to leak. My suggestion would be to look at all your hoses carefullly and then check the housings where the hoses connect to the engine block, if no signs of coolant are present, check around the water pump for noticeable coolant leaks. Hope this helps in your search for that coolant leak.

Hi. A big possibility is that you have a bad water pump hose. There is a short section of hose, maybe 3- 4" long that connects between the water pump and the block, attached with clamps on both ends. You can't hardly see the hose without raising the vehicle and crawling under it. It is located on the lower end of the block between the engine and firewall on the passenger side, rather difficult to get to. If it develops a leak, it could certainly spray onto the firewall. ENGINE COOLANT LEAK FROM BACK OF ENGINE WHERE IS THE WATER PUMP LOCATED


Hopefully just a water hose or connection leak...some parts of these hoses are now metal, and rust away...these factory metal hoses are dealer, and salvage yard only...Many times you can replace the entire metal line with a rubber line...as long as you can connect to both sides...there is a water hose that runs under the coolant overflow, to the firewall...(many times the culprit)...the water pump on your motor is under a pulley located on the front of your engine...Hope this helps.

2000 Silverado leaking coolant from under the hood and I cant tell where its leaking from. Truck overheated while driving home and had problems pushing on gas to get home


You will have to check the coolant tank. If you cannot find it by looking around it, it will have to be removed. If you find that it has a leak in it, It will have to be patched or replace. Also check all of the connections to the coolant tank. It could be possible there is a leak in the connections.

Water Pump leakes from steel tube.


when installing new o-ring on tube, lubricate o-ring and stick it in water pump. Then pull pressure back on tube and then tighten hold down clamp. problem solved

Antifreeze wont stay in car leaking for bottom


You need to look closely at the hose connections, freeze plugs, and the water pump. Water pumps are designed so that when the shaft bearing wears out, they leak from a small hole under the pulley shaft. Sometimes they will only leak while the engine is running. Freeze plugs can rust through causing a leak usually from the side of the engine. Hoses can leak from anywhere. You'll probably have to get under the engine to narrow down the possibilities. You may also want to rent a tool to pressurize the cooling system. That might help you to see where the leak is coming from. If you've never changed a water pump or a freeze plug before, you might be better off taking it to a professional. If it's just a hose, you could probably do that yourself. I hope this was helpful. Car overheated and now leaks coolant


Thats not a good sign. When a engine overheads, the heads tend to warp, especially aluminum heads.It could be something as simple as a hose or waterpump leaking, but because its associated with an overheat condition, I suspect a warped head. Most garages have a pressure tester where they can pressurize your coolant system and check for leaks without the engine running.
