Question about GMC Sierra 1500

Open Question

We just had a new transmission put in our 1996 GMC Sierra. Now the 4 wheel drive will not work. The light flashes but will not engage. Need scramatics for the 4 wheel drive. Heres another question...Do you think that I could just install a toggle switch and bypass the computer?

First manually by pass to see if they work right. I don't know if they are electric or vacuum controlled. I doubt there is a computer, because there is nothing to compute.

Service 4 wheel drive message comes on and no lights for 2and 4 wheel drive come on. On my 2004 gmc

Often lights under a dash or indicators just blow out bulbs. If more than one thing isn't lighting and are centralized check fuses to see if its blown. Bulb or fuse. IMHO. MIGHT be a sensor on tranny too. Hope not.

Here's a video with detaile dinstrauctions and other people's fuse questions. New fuses?

Front wheels won't engage when in 4 wheel

Then the problem would be in the differential. something came loose or broke off the actuator on the inside

1996 GMC Sierra with button actuated 4 wheel drive. When pushing button to "4 High" The light flashes then goes out and does not go into 4wheel drive. What could be the problem and were should I start...

I believe the 4 wheel drive is engaged by a vacuum actuator on this model. Look under the hood for a rubber "banjo-like" diaphragm that has a cable coming out of the middle of it. If I'm right, you'll find a tear in that rubber diaphragm. Post back if this doesn't work and I'll dig deeper. Check that first though.

if the light just flashes then you blew a fuse check all the fuses in the cab and in the engine bay, if none blown, then you have a broken wire
