Question about 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
2007 Jetta Drove home. Turned ignition off. Removed key, opened door. Radio came back on even tho car was off. Tried to put key back in and it would not go in. Key was not forced, key is not bent. Looks like something is blocking it. Car was not broken into. And, now I can't unlock or lock the care electronically. Tried husband's key. Same thing. I work in a bad neighborhood. This is NOT a good thing. Even if they fix it I won't trust it again! What happened?
There is a plastic hinged "dust cover" inside the ignition lock tumbler. If you get a flashlight and a small screwdriver you should be able to see inside there and use the screwdriver to move the piece out of the way. I believe it just gets a bit out of kilter and comes off the hinge a bit to prevent smooth operation. You should be able to get it back on track with a screwdriver.

Testimonial: "I didn't see this before I had the car towed to the dealership where they replaced ignition sleeve but your solution was correct. It was dust cover."
