Hi,

When you come off the highway to an exit ramp, shift the car into neutral - does it still stall out or is it ok? If ok - then something is wrong with the transaxle, if it still stalls - then it could be due to a plugged up EGR valve.
If the valve is stuck open at idle (usually due to excessive carbon deposits), then the car will idle roughly or not at all - acts like a huge vacuum leak. Most common symptom comes about from a highway run to an exit ramp, come to stop or slow down, engine will cut out and refuse to keep the idle up. Restarting may or may not help, since it depends if the EGR valve desided to close or not at that time.

Thanks
Smith.

It is more than likely in the throttle position sensor, I say this because if it gives off a false reading the idle air control will not kick in like it supposed to at idle and it will cause a sluggish throttle response. You should have a check engine light on if it is going out. If the light is not on it could be holding a pending code in the system and can still be checked.

Honestly sounds like the throttle position sensor, if the car is cold it will be choked and thus the throttle body flap almost closed easy to crank, more fuel less air.... when the air warms it moves the throttles actual flap opening wider, thus more air less fuel and harder starting, not as much fuel to combust and if the computer cannot sense the correct position, it will cause acceleration hesitating, poor idle, and what is called stumbling, where you press the gas and it kind of sounds like the motor sputters for a second and then goes or the occasional surging if at highway speed of say 60 mph and you feel the car kinda speed up mile or 2 and then back to the original speed.

My 93 nissan p/u had that issue, but the tps was replaced and it takes 2-3 revolutions on the motor and it's running smooth, hot or cold.

Hope this helps.

You would need to figure out if the problem is too much air or not enough fuel.
The carb has three internal circuits - - idle, cruise, and accelerate.
Fuel flows thru each circuit from the bowl to the venturi.
You could have a vac leak that is allowing too much air to enter the intake, or the idle circuit on the carb may not be adjusted correctly after the engine warms up.
Or it could be something else.

The PO 316 is still misfires om first 1000 revolutions
so the shop did a poor job for you on resolveing the
cylinder misfires

Try a diffferent shop

Have to clean the MAF Sensor & replace upstream
oxygen sensors if over 100,000 miles

Need the correct oem spark spark plugs/any brand

No reason the gas filter should be clogged unless it was in
the car for 10 years

Fuel pressure should be checked

Need to check for cylinder misfires on a road test of 20
miles or more with professional software in Mode#06

You will need to figure out if you are dealing with a fuel problem or ignition problem.
If it feels like a spark miss, you would check the ignition system. If it feels like a lack of fuel, you would check the fuel pressure with a gauge, check for vac leaks, and test the throttle position sensor.

Engine Stalling and stumbling at highway speeds

thats it may be the fuel pump, and the reason why its worse when cold its becouse, when you start the engine cold it needs more fuel to function properly and hold a good idle until it gets its normal operating temp, during these moment the ecu increases the injectors pulse duration to get more fuel to the engine and perhaps a low fuel pressure will give bad fuel atomization and it gives you bad idle and cruise quality, I recomend you to check your fuel pressure for abnormal readings it can be easy by the injectors fuel rail, i hope it help's good luck
