Fan stays on when car is off

Typically the electronic fans are tied to a temperature sensor. They will run until a desired temperature is reached by the radiator or engine block. It sounds like the sensor may be stuck, or shorted.

first check coolant level in radiator coolant level sound low.if coolant overflow jug empty.coolant sysyem low, when add coolant to coolant overflow jug coolant level should stay at full cold mark.if coolant level okay, engine overheat while sitting or moving in slow traffic either coolant fan relay or fuse could be bad.or engine coolant temperature sensor could be bad. coolant sensor turn on cooling fan at certain temperature.hot wire check to make sure cooling fan motor not bad or short in wires.if all is good have pcm check it controls fan relay to through the coolant temperature sensor signal when coolant get hot.

1986 Mazda 323 coolant fan comes on when motor is hot and stays on.

Is the engine actually cooling off? If the temp switch isn't seeing a drop in temperature, it will keep the fan running.

1998 nissan maxima runs hot, replaced the thermostat and at times gauge still register hot, what else could cause this?

Its possible that your problem also stay in the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor resistance changes in response to engine coolant temperature.

Keep in mindthat the sensor resistance decreases as coolant temperature increases. This provides a reference signal, which indicates engine coolant temperature, to the ECM.

The radiator fan comes on right at start up and stays on continually. the temperature sensor located on block is 3 prongs and fan still runs when disconnected but temperature guage drops and check engine...

No,there is usually another on the head or the lower edge of the radiator.Depends on the engine model it may not be in this cluster area but at the other end of head, and may be only single terminal head or 2 wire plug.Hope this helps or post engine and vehicle model numbers and I may be able to supply more precise location for you.I assume that the air conditioning is off as this will actuate fan also.

2000 BMW 323 fan keeps running under hood and has now run battery down. What could be the problem.

Hi,
First - disconnect fan and charge your battery - or you could do permanent damage to it.

With the engine cool, locate the Fan thermal switch. It should be on the radiator itself. Pull off the connection (this should turn off the fan)

Check the two terminals with a meter as they should not conduct when cool.
Fit a replacement. You may loosa a little coolant - but not too much if you are quick.
Top up with similar type.

If the fan switch is ok, it may be a relay which has stuck. This should be located at the end of the fan wiring loom.

Audi A3 2001 radiator fan ruuning all of the time

yeah try to change the sensor.maybe it is busted. normally, most of the late-model cars comes with a fan feature that turns of after 5 or 10 mins even after switching off the engine. this helps to cool down first the engine to reach its desirable temperature before it is totally shut down. its good that your radiator fan has a feature like that. aftermarket perfomance fans do come with that feature because it takes care of the engine state.just try to change the sensor for engine temp
