Have a 1999 dodge cummins 2500 pickup and the temp/compass on roof is frozen wont change display numbers can go though the options though

If the compass is working and the thermometer is stuck (or wrong), it probably a bad sender which is located behind the bumper on the driver's side bolted to the radiator support.

If the compass is not responding, it will probably need to be recalibrated and might need to reset the VAR. You can try to recalibrate first but if you have the owner's manual handy, go ahead and do the whole thing.

In the owner's manual there is a VAR (variation) code to tell the truck which part of the planet you're in so it will be accurate. Locate that code and then do the following:

To reset the variation:
1. Ignition on.
2. Hold down both buttons (US/Metric and Comp/temp) until VAR appears. (about 5 seconds)
3. Release both buttons. VAR remains.
4. Press and release the US/metric button. VAR1 appears. Press and release the US/metric button until the correct VAR is shown.
5. Press the Comp/temp button to store the new variation.

To recalibrate:
1. Start the engine.
2. Depress both buttons until CAL appears, about 5 seconds after VAR.
3. Release both buttons.
4. Drive the vehicle on a level surface, away from large metal objects, through three or more complete circles in less than 48 seconds. The CAL message will disappear from the display to indicate that the compass is now calibrated.

My Paseo's overdrive does not start working until a mile down the road. It was worse during the winter and we changed the filter and fluid. But the problem is still there. It has something to do with...

Hello. My name is Toyota Ed. Please allow me to assist you.

The truth is, your Paseo is working properly.

To lessen emissions, Toyota does not allow the overdrive to engage until the engine temperature reaches 177 degrees F.

The "OD allowed" temperature is determined by the coolant temperature sensor on the engine. This sensor prevents the computer from allowing the OD to engage until the 177 degree threshold is met.The warmer the coolant is, like in the summer, the faster the 177 degree plateau is reached. In colder temps, like in winter, it takes much longer for the coolant to warm up to the desired temperature, thusly taking longer to shift into OD.

If the overdrive engaged before 177, cold-engine emissions are more abundant.

There is nothing that can be done to change the point at when the OD is permitted to shift.

So, your car is in excellent working condition. Nothing to worry about, now that you understand the basic design.

Thank you very much for choosing FixYa for assistance today. I hope that my input proves useful to you. If so, a 4-thumbs up rating form you would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great day.

I have a dodge truck and the ac works good and

ac pressures are ok, is the return pipe as drier sweating?, if not recharge system, if so you have a problem your fin sensor not reading evap temp, scan tool would be nice to monitor temp, but easy to get at , behind glove box, held in by a rubber gromet, also jump cycling switch on drier to see if it runs longer then 5 mins, possible charge again. GOOD LUCK RDJRP

Car seems to not shift into 3rd when cold

The transmission will NOT shift into the final gear (overdrive) when the coolant temperature is below 177 degrees F. The OD is coolant temperature controlled. In short, the colder it is outside, the colder the engine is, and takes longer to warm up to operating temperature. The coolant, when it reaches 177 degrees F, satisfies the temperature sensor, which allows the final shift. Assuming that you do not have a thermostat that is stuck slightly open, this is a normal occurance. Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance.
