Have you checked to see if there is spark at the plug wires? You pull one boot off of your spark plugs and stick a paper clip or something metal into the plug wire then have someone turn the engine over while you ground out the plug wire with the clip in it. See if there is any spark. Be careful not to touch the paper clip while they are turning the engine over or you might feel a slight shock. Did you happen to check to see if you had enough fuel pressure? I have the pressure reading you should have on your vehicle. Get back with me as to what you have tried or when you see if there is spark.

2002 Mitsubishi Montero won't start. Replaced the starter and fuel pump and filter.

Does vehicle engine turn over. If yes, then pay attention to fuel system. Check for good power and ground at fuel pump connector. If no power check fuel pump fuse, relay and for open wires (power, ground) to fuel pump.

Ford based RV - 460 cc - possible fuel issues?

I'm not familiar with the vehicle (I write from the UK..) but yes sir, I would agree with you that it does sound like hot engine/fuel issues. Or maybe a 'cold start' injector, assuming it is a petrol engine.

I also agree that you don't throw money at it.

Personally, I would change the fuel filter (and air filter) anyway, it's the easiest and cheapest option.

You don't mention any problems when the vehicle is running, so I presume that when it is actually travelling, all is fine? If you had intermittent problems with the fuel pump I would have imagined that your vehicle would stall and splutter from time to time. Plus, at the low mileage you have done - a fuel pump shouldn't be failing or have problems.

I would change the fuel filter (and air filter if necessary) and also pour a can of 'injector cleaner' into the fuel tank as a 'lazy' or gummed-up injector(s) can cause starting problems - and take the vehicle for a nice fast run to 'try and clear things'.

Do the simple things first. The things YOU can do. With low mileage vehicles a 'glaze' can build up in the fuel system simply because the vehicle is low mileage /short runs. This causes injectors to become 'clogged and sticky'. Run it with additives in the fuel system ...

If all else fails, ask a workshop. But .. it sounds as though your vehicle is reliable apart from the starting-niggle. I don't think you have a big problem.

1991 Miata Starting problem

find the filter pull it off and clean it if u cant clean it replace it they usally are cheap on older vehicles but with the filter off turn the car have someone turn the car to the on position so the pump is pumping and see how good it is coming out of the line if not very good then your gas tank line to the fuel filter is clogged but if its fine check the next fuel line the one on the fuel rail there is a bolt on the fuel rail crack it open and have someone turn the key if gas comes out then you are getting fuel and that would mean your injectors are bad

I have a 1990 Ford E-350 5.7L that cranks but when you press on the accelerator, It cuts off. I have had the external fuel pump changed as well the fuel filter. The ECM elay has also been replaced.

A common problem is the crank sensor fails or gets out of adjustment. This device senses engine rotation and when it fails to send pulses the engine is assumed to be NOT rotating. When engine rotation ceases for a few seconds, the fuel pump is turned off. This is a safety feature to prevent fuel being pumped if vehicle is in wreck or whatever. The fuel pump is cycled on a few seconds when starting so that engine can start and then rotation is sensed and pump is allowed to continue.

Hello,
When the MAF on most vehicles reach a point of preventing the engine from starting, you can usually just unplug it and the engine will start. If that doesn't work-
You may want to try having the O2 sensor, ( Oxygen sensor ), checked. It works with other components of the emission system and can cause similar symptoms as the MAF, including preventing the engine from starting.

Its faulty fuel pump and clogged fuel filter. In your vehicle the fuel pressure is low,due to this faulty fuel pump and clogged fuel filter,so its not starting. But it starts when you spray liquid in intake. The liquid directly goes to engine so vehicle starts.Replace the fuel pump and filter. This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
