The chrysler transmissions go into a default setting and stay in second gear when there is a governor or governor pressure sensor problem,if you keep driving it that way..u might need a trans,u should have it scanned for trans codes and see what you come up with, the rams were the biggest offenders when it came to this problem, either a turbine sensor code or a govenor solenoid or pressure sensor problem, hope this helps

42re tranny in my 93 jgc seems to be stuck in low gear. 1st & 2nd seem to be the same and won't shift automatically at all. Will not shift into overdrive. Changed throttle position sensor, new tranny

if its not shifting make sure fluids are full (I'm sure you did) im just saying is your speed sensor on trany pluged in , and your throttle return cable from trany to fuel return hooked up

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I just replaced the transmission fluid in it and the filter as well, using the recommended fluid because the transmission was having a hard time going from 1st to 2nd...

They way you replaced fluid is bad, you should of done a bg service, by dropping the pan theres still oldoil ,the converter is full and the lines and the cooler and inside trany, then when new fluid is added the cleaners in it loosen all the dirt and seend it through the trany, the bg flushes 100% of the old fluid so no mixing of old contiminated and new oil is taking place.

Hello.. Before being able to diagnosis the problem the info that is stored in the computer about the check engine light needs to scanned and posted here. After that I am sure someone can put you in the right direction.

Good Luck..

After backing out of driveway, doesnt want to go into drive. seems to happen more when its cold

Just by your question I am assuming that it is an automatic trany. Probably a domestic car with about 90+ miles on it.

However, even though I have ESP could you please provide mre details

Isuspect though you need to add trany fluid. Probably an AC-DELCO GM Borg-Warner. if s you neen a reverse clutch band adjustment

Ford ranger trany

Yes you can adjust the bands, but not for 1st gear. Of the two bolts you see, the front one is for 4th gear and the rear one is for 2nd. Is first gear the only problem you have? Does 1st gear work fine if you use manual 1st?

you need to get the diagnostic codes to determine why its in 2nd gear (limp-in). it can be numerous things..anything from a input or output speed sensor to a serious internal trans problem.
