A code P0430 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

  • The catalytic converter is no longer functioning properly
  • An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly
  • There is an exhaust leak
Possible Solutions....
First, inspect for exhaust leaks.
Next step is to measure the voltage at the oxygen sensor on Bank 2. In fact, it would be a good idea to test each oxygen O2 sensor while you're at it.
One thing to note is that many vehicle manufacturers offer a longer warranty on emissions-related parts. So if you have a newer car but it's out of it's bumper-to-bumper warranty, there still may be warranty on this type of problem. Many manufacturers give a five year, unlimited mileage warranty on these items. It's worth checking into.

Erase codes

If the light is on, there there is a code stored. If you cannot extract it, you may need different equipment. You can't simply erase the code without fixing what caused it to come on in the first place. it will just come right back on.

Code p0432 main catalyst effic below threshold (bank 2)

  • Most of the time a P0423 code alone is the Catalytic Converter.
  • An exhaust manifold leak can cause this code too.
  • You can have a leak test performed on your exhaust and see if this is causing the code but it is more than likely your CAT.
  • If your engine is using an obsessive amount of oil or coolant this can cause that code too, a base engine problem that is.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Lots of things can trigger the CEL (check engine light) and cause the vehicle to lose power. Without knowing what code(s) are stored in the computer, this is all jut a guessing game. Take it to a mechanic or pull the codes with an OBD reader.

The check engine light on my 2004 mercedes c320 went on all of a sudden, the car is still running great not sure why its on?

The check engine light is letting you know that the engine computer has detected that one of its sensors is not working correctly, or that one of the engine systems is not operating properly and has stored in memory a diagnostic trouble code. The system was developed primarily to keep emissions low. The great thing about the light is that it lets you know something is amiss early on so you have plenty of time to correct it before more serious bad things happen. Most major auto parts stores will read out the stored trouble codes for free.

Check engine light

Your car has many systems on board, that require monitoring. All sensors need to be operating. Having your own code reader is a nice tool to diagnose this kind of problem. The code readers that are available today are hand held and plug right into the OBD2 computer link inside your car. You scan your car yourself and retrieve the error codes. The scanners usually come with a chart that lists the codes and their respective components.
