Question about 2004 Chevrolet Impala

1 Answer

Turn the key and the car won't start. Thought it could be celinoid. BUT when I put in neutral and push the car back a foot or so, it connects and starts. Could it be a couple of teeth are broken on the flywheel? Thanks

Broken flywheel teeth will give you an unmistakable noise when starting. Either the starter drive is getting stuck or putting it in neutral is allowing you to start it because the neutral safety switch is either out of adjustment or bad. (I'd bet on the switch)

Ignition problems. Sometimes the car will start and sometimes it won't even try. I thought maybe holding the gear shifter up will help and sometimes putting it in neutral will work when nothing e

From what you describe it sounds like the shift linkage needs adjustment. Was any work done on the transmission,or did you bottom out recently? I don't think it's electrical. Also don't keep a lot of keys on your ignition key ring this can wear the key slot and also cause the erratic starts.Good luck.

Our 2010 Taurus is keyless and won't turn over to start. Lights come on but wont turn over. WHat's the problem?

I'm assuming that this vehicle is a push to start, correct? Do you need to press the foot brake to start the vehicle? Is the vehicle in Park or neutral?
If all of this is working properly, check the fuses under the hood and in the passenger compartment, to the left of the steering column, lower dash.

2008 impala won't start or shift out of park, key is difficult to remove from ignition.

Sound like a problem with the Neutral Ssafety Switch, this is located on top transmission (generally) and its possible that need some adjust.

The switch key is not turning it's in but refused to turn

it sounds like your shift cable is stretched or the safety switch is bad do you normally have to put your foot on the brakes to start and if so try to start but try in neutral and if that doesnt work try and play with the shifter in park push it a little forward and see if it starts if so it is the neutral safety switch/ or adjustment

Ignition switch does not turn starter on but after replacing celinoid and jumping across celinoid the truck starts right up and shuts off with ignition key how do i replace ignition in column or is that...

That sounds like the ignition in the column. Buy a new ignition and take the column apart. take out the old one and replace with the new. It's a pretty easy job if you're decenty inclined.. let me know of other ??. Or find the hot before the switch and the lead to the starter in the column and put in a push button start. Though then anyone can start the car without a key

Battery died, replace battery still no rotation on start , windows won,t come up sunroof inop.

i have the same car same problem. i found you can put your windows back up by using your car key outside of the car lock and hold the key in the lock position and your windows and sunroof will close. the next time you want to put your windows down put your key in the unlock position and hold and they will go down your sunroof probably still wont work but atleast your not burning up on a hot day in june. as far as your car not starting try turning your ingition HOLD it in the START position put your foot on the break and drop the trans. into neutral and it should start. i hope this helped and good luck with your windows i still havent got mine to work :/

Same Problem-My 2006 GX470 won't start -Key won't turn.

Had the same issue with my wife's 2005 Lexus GX470. The issue is that the shifter is not in park (even though it seems it is). The other issue is that without the key turned, you can not move the shifter to neutral. If you look closely at the gear shift, on the left above the P (Park Symbol) there is a small rectangular box that has a **** on one side. _862.jpgTake a small screwdriver and lift the plastic cover which will reveal a button. With your foot on the brake, push the button with one hand and now you will be able to move the shifter to neutral with the other hand. Now, put it back in park and you should now be able to turn your key and start your car. Put the little piece of plastic you removed over the button and go on your way.
