Most likely the thermostat sticking...
The thermostat could also be missing!
That would create some of the symptom you describe.

Not too hard to replace. It is at the end of the large radiator hose where it connects to the engine.
1. Drain radiator
2. Undo the two bolts that hold down the thermostat housing
3. remove thermostat and remove all old gasket and gasket sealant residue on the engine and housing
4. replace thermostat in the correct orientation (pointy side UP) with the new gasket and sealant
5. Tighten down housing and re-fill the radiator.

It could also be a clogged heater core. It may only be circulating enough heated water to work sometimes and the water is returning to the radiator via the "bypass" hone.

Hope this helps!

Buick idle at 1700 dies when putting it in reverse

Manifoild air leak causing engine to idle too fast. Check for air hose leaks. Some are palstic mated with rubber hose sections. Both can crack and leak.

If engine stalls when stopped at light, torque converter may not be unlocking.

Sometimes my heat works but most of the time it just blows cold air.

Get your radiator and heater core flushed out, if this doesn't fix the issue then your contol damper is probably not functioning like it should. The heater core and radaitor should be able to get flushed at the same time and this is a good thing to do on occasion anyway. Have you check your engine thermostat? this could be the culprit if it is not closing and allowing the engine to heat up.

Can not get hub Assembly nut to break loose, even with a breaker bar.on a 1990 buick lesabre..any tips..[thanks] chuck nc........

You need heat.
I have not had very good luck from small propane torches, you will need a auto shop torch set...but,
try soaking it with penetrating oil. (Keep adding it to allow penetration over time)

A relay or the wires connector to the motor needs to be cleaned or replaced.

1997 buick lesabre HEATER PROBLEMS The fan works fine but it doesn;t heat up. Cold air is always blowing out of the vents

This could be several things. First I would check that the thermostat is not stuck open. This will condition will make the car run cold when it is cold outside.

If this is not the case........and I'm assuming you've already checked that the antifreeze is full, make sure that the heater valve is working. If it is frozen in place then it won't move and won't allow the warm water to circulate through the heater core.

I'm basing my answers on a standard Lesabre. Yours may not have the standard climate control.

Cold weather starts

Your going to need a new battery. This is the simplest fix for the issue. I would also recommend a block heater. Certain models of these basically get mounted inline with your coolant hoses and they constantly heat and circulate your antifreeze so your car is instantly warm when you start it. They do have to be plugged into an electrical outlet but they are worth it in very cold weather.

Just don't forget to unplug them before you leave with the car :)

But for now sounds like the only thing you really need is a new battery. As much as i hate to say it walmart has some pretty good deals on batteries and they usually don't charge to put them in. Worth it especially when its cold.
