Providing there is no engine noise when pressure reads low likely either the connector on your oil pressure sending unit is loose or the sender itself is failing. Check wire connection and if good, replace sender. If there is engine noise, likely you have an internal pressure problem that generally is caused by obstructed pump screen or worn engine bearings. Oil level is full?

1985 isuzu pup cold the pickup has oil psi 45 hot it has oil psi 10- 0psi ?

Well how recant is the reading been saying this i mean did it all of a sudden start reading low . 10 PSI is to low for a hot engine you could try replaceing the oil pressure sending unit but if this dosn't fix it then i would have to say you have a serious problem interinaly in the engine eighter valve or ring related or a big oil leak somewhere dose it burn oil?

A failing oil pump.. but more likely a clogged pickup tube or screen.. can cause this once you get above a certain rpm..the pump can't keep up with demand so to speak. .

Drop the pan..clean the pan..inspect for solids etc.. .. remove the pickup tube/screen.. clean or replace the pickup tube and screen..those parts are generally pretty inexpensive.

Of course it could be the sending unit.. or a bad ground/short.. yet depending on how well the rig has been maintained..or operating environment.. sludge and solids blocking the pickup tube and screen could be the culprit.

It would never hurt to drain and drop the pan.. new gasket.. new pickup tube and screen..clean the pan.. new filter.. new fresh oil.. some recommend sea foam... just follow the directions.

Best of luck!

Low oil pressure when idling

how low is it it is normal for it to be about 20 psi when its hot an idling.. if u rev in neutral an it goes up thats good. if it dosent well thats either low oil, bad sensor, or bad oil pump.

What would cause the oil pressure to drop without any visible oil leak.

Most common reason is low engine oil level, so check your oil level first. and if that's ok then check the following:
  1. Oil pressure sensor maybe faulty
  2. Check oil pump pressure with a gauge fitted where the oil sensor is test oil pressure when cold and at operating temperature.
  3. Loose wiring connection or faulty wiring to the sensor /gauge. Good luck, let me know how you get on.

1991 chevy S10 blazer fluctuating oil pressure

I assume from the year it has high mileage. With mileage comes wear in these engine's bearings allowing oil pressure to drop because of the excess clearance between cam and bearings, also the crank and bearings. When the engine is hot and idling the oil is thinner and goes by the bearings quicker. If you have good oil pressure while driving, I'd leave it alone, maybe use a thicker oil or some lucas additive. My 89 does the same thing sometimes in the summer, but don't remember it doing it this summer. I use Mobil-1 and an AC Delco filter.

Have a 1999 Z71 chev truck with 5.3 L engine that has fluctuating oil pressure. Started with low oil pressure after start with engine clak that disappeared after it warmed up. Changed oil and found sludge...

In some cases where the oil is not changed properly, the oil pump screen maybe plugging or your oil filter is defective. Fram is a good filter. If there is no problem found, replace the pressure sensor.

Fluctuating oil press

On a jeep engine I prefer seeing low number above 20, generally a few pounds higher. Do you have any noises from engine (tapping/knocking?) low pressure often indicates bearing wear. If engine was not maintained properly or low quality oil was used, it's possible that there is a carbon buildup on the oil pump pickup screen. Though pan removal is not my favorite afternoon job, it may be a good idea before you have further problems.
At the very least, begin using a good additive to dissolve any debris. Marvel oil works well in doing this but don't expect anything to change right away.If idle pressure drops to 10, definitely have it checked immediately.
good luck

Low Oil Pressure on 1992 Chevy 1500 Pickup Truck

Hi! The problem you are outlining is very similar to the Rover V8 (Buick engine). We Brit's are used to the low oil pressure when warm. I presume a complete oil change engine flushed with new replacement filter has been carried out? Maybe a top quality synthetic oil with additive may help. You may take it a little further and replace the oil pump with an after market performance up rated one. If you really are worried about low oil pressure damage whilst in low rev's try Molybnenum Disulphide an oil additive which really reduces friction metal to metal wear particulary in the situation you are describing.
That's the best I can suggest at this moment.
Good Luck! and Happy New Year!
