Question about Toyota 4Runner

3 Answers

Engine overheats with a new radiator and new thermostat. Its on a 1993 Toyota 4Runner 4x4.The waterpump is not visibly leaking either. Before replacing my old radiator I had used a bottle of stopleak to fix a pinhole. It turns out there were other holes, so I got a new one.

Might be your headgasket...are you losing coolant through the overflow? getting a hyrdocarbon test will show this very quickly...high carbons=blown headgasket

V6 3.0 getting hot

thermostat is on the waterpump. Follow the lower radiator hose to the housing. there should be three 10mm bolts should be holding the housing to the waterpump with the thermostat in between. If you are going to change it, then drain your cooling system first.

Overheat after waterpump replacement

Did you change the thermostat? If not it may be the cause. You can check the thermostat by removing it and immersing it in hot water. If it is working it will open. The thermostat is usually located under the upper radiator hose.

93 4runner new radiator new t stat still overheating.

Check:

1. Thermostat. Replace with an OEM one from the dealer. 2. Radiator. Make sure it's not plugged up. 3. Radiator Cap. There cheap from the dealer and I consider them a maint. item. 4. Water pump. How many miles are on it? 5. Fan Clutch. Make sure it has some resistance
6. Temp. Sensor for the gage.Have you checked that the electric cooling fan is turning on when the engine reaches operating temp? A faulty coolant temperature sensor will not trigger the fan, or the fan itself or fan relay could be shot. You might also have a head gasket leak that is not into the cylinders, so it would overheat without causing milky oil. Another possibility is a clogged radiator -- with 15 years on the vehicle, it's quite possible. Have the cooling system pressure checked, and replace the radiator cap for starters -- if the radiator cap isn't holding pressure, overheating will occur rapidly.

I would put a thermal gun on and aim it at your water pump if it fluxuates pretty steady then that would indicate the radiator would prob. be the concern

1992 Toyota 4Runner, overheats, radiator, upper and lower hoses and thermostat new. Water pump has about 10,000 miles. upper hose heats up, lower hose stays cold. Heater blows only cold air. Help

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. Have you checked to see if it is a coolant sensor? Have you checked to make sure the fans are coming on? Are you leaking coolant anywhere? Checked the cap?

REPLACE RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP AND CHECK THE COOLING FAN CLUTCH.WHEN YOUR ENGINE HOT WHEN YOU TRY TURNING CLUTCH FAN WITH YOUR HAND WHEN ENGINE IS HOT.THERE SHOULD BE RESISTANCE IN THE FAN.IF CLUTCH FAN SPINS FREELY WHILE ENGINE HOT.YOU NEED TO REMOVE COOLING FAN TO REPLACE CLUTCH.
